About

Childhood dreams - sharing vintage silverware treasures collected in my childhood by combining them with gemstones collected yesterday and today.

Growing up on a small poultry farm with parents who worked in town during the day we all had to share responsibilities after school and work. My brother and I stayed with our Grandparents who live a short distance down the road after school and during the summer when our parents were at work. We were very fortunate to have parents and grandparents who taught us the true values in life. My parents took the time to share with us and teach us right from wrong. We didn't have automatic feeders so all the chickens had to be feed and watered by hand, all 10,000 of them! We would take box lids or whatever we could find to use that would hold feed and half gallon cans for water. We had to use our imagination allot. Lots of time to talk as you worked before supper and bedtime! Fun family time, no TV or telephone to take up our time. Then at grandmother and paw's house we farmed in the garden, picked up whatever we could find and made something of value from the items. Grandmother didn't throw nothing away, if a spoon bent to badly for eating or cooking could be used as a hook in the kitchen, coat hanger, or something. Out to paw's shop to find the hammer and pliers along with our imagination to make whatever we could design. We lived on a dirt road and it was amazing what people would throw out along the way. As I was taught, nothing was thrown away so on our journey each morning Grandmother pulled a little red wagon(sometimes it carried me) to place our Treasures someone had thrown out along the road side. Mother didn't complain but she made sure I took all my vintage collection with me when I married.
My husband loves nature so of course we collected rocks! Travel to several mines to dig for gems - most of our vacations were spent looking for something in nature. We studied together at the college taking several classes on gemstones and a two year course on Lapidary (cutting and designing gemstones).
With my vintage collection of silverware and 49 years of collecting gemstones I decided to complete my dream of sharing with others. The value of what our ancestors designed, created and left for us to enjoy are beyond our imagination. These vintage items cannot be replaced by reproduction. People have tried, but our ancestors used hand tools and materials which designers of today would not consider using in their work. It is my desire to share with others and their ancestors what was shared with me as a child!

I was raised on a small farm by parents who taught us to "never throw anything away". Use your imagination to make the item useful. With a love for vintage items and a husband who loved "rocks" I fulfilled my dream combining the two!

Thank you for stopping by our shop. I trust you will take a moment to look at my designs which are assembled using vintage silverware and gemstones. My grandparents instilled the desire to collect vintage silverware at a very early age. Grandmother would save the stamps that came in oat meal and send them in to exchange for silverware to help add to my collection. After 49 years I had to replace the Sunbeam mixer we purchased using stamps which we had saved from purchasing sugar . I have spent allot of the past 49 years admiring and collecting gemstones which have not been made by hand. No matter how many stones you find with the same name, no two will be exactly alike because of their growth time and location of where they have grown. My husband is a Viet Nam veteran and then spent 26 years in the National Guard serving our country. With our love for our God, country, family, and his need for "R&R" time, we both found spending time looking for rocks helped us to relax and enjoy our Love for God together. I started collecting silverware about six years ago to add to my collection and cannot understand why anyone would destroy the beautiful work our ancestors created. All of my silverware is vintage, I do not use any reproductions. I use different types of silver in order to give the customers an option on price of the item. Each listing (if possible) is label as silver plate, sterling (925) silver, 900 silver, or 800 silver. In order to give customers different options, I make some jewelry using gemstones, swarovski crystals, and some without any stones. After two years of study in Lapidary under Judge Davis at our local community college, which really inspired me even more, I decided it was time to share what my ancestors had taught me as a child.
Being very careful to match the gemstone to the silverware before starting the piece of jewelry it may take several tries to make a final decision on the design. I pride in matching the silverware and gemstone or accessories with the pieces. Comparing both the design and pattern of the gemstone with the design of the silverware. The finished silverware will have some "treasure marks" which I do not remove. I polish all silverware but do not remove the "treasure marks" which are marks placed over time by our ancestors. If I removed these marks it would destroy the design our ancestors so gracefully placed on the silverware.
I have a quiet workshop over the garage away from the busy house so I can concentrate completely on the design. Then, if I can bare to let go of the completed item I will place it in inventory. I know I cant keep everyone of them, but it really is hard to turn loose of the beautiful gems and silverware after you have completed the item.
