Still playing in the mud...

I have been fascinated by clay since I was a child. I grew up in the rural countryside of upstate New York and while most kids were content making “mud pies”, I loved making complete sets of tiny dishes with the clay that I dug up near the pond in our backyard. That love was reawakened during my first year of college when I stumbled into my first pottery class at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I immersed myself in the study of ceramics and took many workshops with some of the best potters of that era; Warren MacKenzie, David Shaner, Ken Ferguson, John Reeve and others. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1975 and have had a love affair with clay ever since.

My home and studio are located on a mesa top near the sleepy little town of Hotchkiss, Colorado. My husband and I each have our own work spaces: mine is my pottery/glass studio and his is his wood shop where he creates wooden spoons and other kitchen ware. We grow a large garden and summer and fall are extra busy with harvesting and preserving food. When I’m not in my studio you can find me gardening, cooking, baking, entertaining friends or enjoying the inspiring mountain views from our deck. I strive to live a life of balance, whether it’s cooking a meal from our garden, making the plates and mugs we eat on, or having a tea party with my granddaughters. Life is good!

Frequently asked questions

Is my pottery oven, microwave and dishwasher safe?

Yes, it is, but do not put it over a direct flame or on a burner. I always recommend with mugs that you preheat the mug first with hot tap water before pouring boiling water into the cup. That way your coffee or tea will stay hot longer and you will avoid thermal shock to your mug.
