~Price Increases~
Although we have kept prices as low as possible, we have recently had to increase our prices as the cost of lumber has doubled over the past few months and Canada Post has increased their shipping costs again.
We have not doubled our prices, ensuring that our toys are still affordable to most. But we have had to raise our prices slightly to help cover the cost.

~Wholesale and Bulk order Discounts~
Etsy has mandated that our shop is being advertised by them on google and has informed us that their usual 10% commission fee will have an additional 12% commission fee added on top of that. As a result we no longer offer bulk discounts or wholesale on the Etsy platform. No exceptions.

Once Upon A Hot Summer's Day not so very long ago,

Once upon a hot summer's day, not so very long ago in 2010, there was a craft fair in Westlock, Alberta. Deep in the back corner of the craft fair sat an artisan selling her handcrafted jewelry and mixed media art canvases. She was having a great time talking to the few customers that came by now and then. But one particular customer caught her attention.

This particular customer was a little boy around 5 or 6 years old. His face looked so sad, his eyes downcast and his mouth about to quiver. He held his mom's hand while she went from table to table looking at wares.

The more tables she stopped by, the sadder he got. There were hair clips and headbands, tutus and jewelry and lots of things that little girls, especially his sister, would love. It was all too much for him and big, fat tears started rolling down his face.

"Mom," he whispered, "why isn't there ever anything for boys at these places?"

"Hush", his mom said very worried that someone would overhear her son complaining. "All these people make these things. I don't know why no one makes things for boys. But don't worry, we will stop at the store to get something for you." And they hurried along their way.

That night when the artisan got home, she sat down and did a little soul searching. She was a mother of 2 young boys and she too could never find anything to bring home to them. She took out her pencil and sketch pad and started brainstorming. She knew someone had to start making items for boys and she also knew that she was that someone.

Current day:

After 6 months of product development, market research and learning toy manufacturing laws, I decided to start creating imaginative play worlds and characters.

Armed with new designs, I recruited a team of independent woodworkers and wood turners including my own husband (who learned how to wood turn from watching you-tube videos) to help turn my designs from sketches into wooden toys. They send these pieces back to me, ready for me to paint. I love the personal touches I get to do while painting by brush with acrylic paint.

When my middle child was diagnosed with autism, I searched for tactile quality wooden educational toys to assist him with hands on learning. Because he had a lot of accidents with spilling milk or juice plus he still mouthed his toys, I needed something that was high quality yet safe to put in his mouth. There was nothing available in Canada except for big brand name toys with paper fronts or made in China products that were possibly toxic. The only option I had was to design and make items for his education.

The toys started to help him learn and I showed his occupational therapist, speech therapists and physiologist what I was creating for his learning. They made inquiries and placed order requests from other families with special needs children. This steered my toy making company in the direction of creating heirloom quality educational learning toys for toddler through grade 2.

In 2018 our home insurance company decided that we could no longer run our little operation from our garage and dining room table. In October 2018 we rented a small one room office in Edmonton and in July 2020 we moved our wooden toy company to our family farm outside of Colinton, Alberta. My husband still does the majority of the woodwork but we have also contracted out some of our woodwork and added some made in USA wooden parts to keep up with the growing demand. Currently I am the only toy designer and artist in the studio. We work full time around our kids virtual based school schedule and family schedules.

Our product line develops as my son hits higher grades and needs different items to assist with both hands on tactile learning as well as peer interaction in his fully integrated classroom. Products are also developed as requests from parents and teachers come in for more tactile learning toys that follow the Alberta school curriculum in the areas of language arts, math, social studies and science.

If you have any questions about any of my products or if you need something made specifically for your child’s education, please message me.

Thanks.
Miriam

Wholesale availability

We do not offer wholesale on the Etsy platform.

However, if you are interested in carrying our wooden toys, please message me with your website so we can see if our products would be a good fit.

Are your toys safe and lead-free?

When making wooden toys we try to make them as safe as possible. We make our toys according to government of Canada Toy manufacturing laws and Health Canada toy safety guidelines

This includes making sure the paints and finished used in our wooden toys are marked as certified non-toxic from paint made in the USA.

Even though our items are certified non-toxic please don't let your kids chew or mouth on toys. Little teeth are sharp. Sharp teeth will damage the wood and the paint finish. Unfortunately no paint or finish can withstand sharp teeth and being chewed, not even our high end certified non-toxic paints and finishes. We can offer to repair or replace a piece at a nominal fee. Customers are responsible for all shipping costs.

Is the woodwork done by your shop?

Each item in our shop is made to order when you order it. We do not carry ready made stock.

Most of the woodwork is done by my husband Shane. He has been instrumental in making custom name puzzles, wood turnings and scroll saw work along with cutting wooden blocks.

I also work with other Alberta based woodworkers, giving them drawings of the wood parts I need them to make so that I can turn the wood parts into wooden toys. These local woodworkers are also put in as production partners even to give them credit even thought they are actually parts suppliers.

To keep costs down, we also use some made in USA wooden parts from reputable woodworkers in some of our sets.

Sizing: all sizes listed in our product descriptions are +/- 0.25 inch

Custom and personalized orders

Imagine....

A little child is opening a special gift from you. He tears open the bright, beautiful wrapping paper to find an exquisitely crafted wooden toy in his favorite colours and it even has his name on it! Oh my, his excitement cannot be contained! It is his favourite gift ever! And you are now his favourite person in the whole world!

That is what we aim for when we personalize and customize our wooden toys for you.

Whether it be a hand painted name on a solid wood toy, choosing special colours that your little one loves or even customizing a toy set around a theme that your little one is currently mesmerized with, we offer you the ability to personalize lots of toys in our lineup. We accept custom orders depending upon request.

Do you love Disney, Marvel, or hockey and want something made to resemble the characters you love? Please do not ask us as we will turn your request down.

Imagine...

An artist is working night and day, pouring their heart and soul out creating a special character. This character is alive in their minds. They talk to it and listen to it. They become friends with the special character. And then it gets kidnapped.

Why would we want to do that to a fellow artist and their special character?

We are a company that complies with copyright laws pertaining to licensed characters, logos and trademarks. As per law, no copyrighted/trademarked characters can be made for commercial purposes without licensing agreements.

In the war against plagiarism, we take a strong stance. Strong enough to legally protect our own toy designs/characters & strong enough to say no to stealing other people's characters.

About our wood

Solid wood is beautiful and part of that beauty is that no two pieces of wood are alike. Wood grains will vary, mineral streaks may or may not be present and knots may or may not be present.
