Announcement   WELCOME TO MEADOW MUFFIN GARDENS - Natural, environmentally friendly and affordable home remedies and personal body care for the family. Homemade, handmade, organic when possible, all with a touch of the love and wisdom from past generations. Knowledge of what is in your products is the start to taking back control as a consumer.

"Beauty is only an herb away" The quip from my son that started it all.
"Wholesome and practical is the best way to describe our line of body care. Simple pleasures are among life's best treasures. Guided by wisdom and knowledge passed down from past generations, our products consist of ingredients provided by our natural world. Information and recipes often tucked away in quaint old books resurface to remind us that 'simple is best'."

Utilizing herbs, flowers, aromatherapy, and oils without the use of parabens, artificial colorings or synthetic fragrances to create natural solutions to personal and family care needs. Several items can also be used for the care of your dog; a few that are also safe for cats.

Ingredients used are purchased from reputable, certified organic companies or grown organically in my own gardens.

Natural skin care rewards you with the knowledge of knowing what you are putting on your body, thereby greatly reducing the chance of skin irritation or allergic reaction.
Please review the ingredient list of the product before purchasing and be aware of known allergies. Immune systems function differently so there is always the risk of a sensitivity even with natural ingredients.
Should there be a sensitivity or allergy to an ingredient in a product, let me know and if possible we can substitute.

No need for concern about the harm to animals as there are no animal products or animal testing involved in these products.

Though there is a section labeled Babies, Children, there are many items throughout the shop wonderful for children. The items within the Babies, Children, Pregnancy section simply make it easier to find items for very young children and pregnant women.

Items are made in small batches as they are needed. In our attempts to avoid the use of parabens as preservatives, only natural preservatives are used. The paraben family includes methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben and ethylparaben. Parabens are synthetic (aka chemical) preservatives commonly used to increase the shelf life in cosmetics and personal care products. Being parabens have been known to cause skin problems as well as disrupt the body's endocrine system, we'd rather leave them out of our products. Our philosophy is that your body care products should be fresh (as with anything put into or onto your body) and are not meant to sit on a shelf for lengths of time.

Natural preservatives used include antimicrobial grapefruit seed extract, antioxidant Vit. E and the concentration of essential oils if used. What this means is that while these non-synthetic, natural means of preservation deter the growth of bacteria and molds and extend shelf life, they are not the broad spectrum preservatives found on the commercial market. Being the risk of contamination is always present in any perishable product please try to use the item within 6 months or keep in the refrigerator.Products which contain water such as the creams and lotions are the most at risk for contamination. Such at risk products should be used within about 4 months. The salves, balms, honey, salts, powders, butters, and oils, containing no water, are very stable as is and are fine for months. Keep any of the products in a cool location, out of exposure to heat and sunlight, have clean hands before using, and keep water from dripping into the product. Refrigeration will extend the shelf life of perishable items.

Please understand the difference between fragrance oils and essential oils.
Don't evaluate a product just by smelling it. Be aware of what is actually in it.
Aromatherapy essential oils are naturally occurring substances found in different parts of plants. Essential oils are used for their healing and therapeutic benefits.
Fragrance oils are manufactured scents created for use in cosmetics, candles, sprays, etc. They are not natural to our bodily chemistry and may cause sensitivity.

As a wise consumer, take note that the difference between products containing fragrance oils vs. essentials will often be in the price tag. The production of pure, therapeutic essential oils is labor intensive requiring a large amount of initial plant material. Supply and demand greatly effects the availability and price. Examples of the pricier oils include: chamomile, sandalwood, helichrysum, catnip, frankincense and rose.

The safety of using essential oils during pregnancy should always be considered before making a purchase. Please don't hesitate to ask questions but it is always best to voice any concerns with your physician. This is a very informative article on using essential oils during pregnancy:

About

Be a Natural Beauty, Only an Herb Away!

Located in scenic southeastern Pennsylvania, Meadow Muffin Gardens began as many growing families with the desire for open space and clean living. As funds permitted, we gradually planted deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to our area. Mowing around these little plants was more work but eventually turned an ordinary yard into an area that encouraged wildlife to call it their home. We learned from experience the unique needs of various plants. What survived our winters is what established itself rather than my envisioned garden design.

Interest in herbal gardening was encouraged by the passion of a coworker. The education began in earnest with the realization that a weed is just a plant for which people haven't a use or is growing out of place.
A little research into human history soon brought to light how quickly people forget with each passing generation what was once vital information for survival. Before our age of technological advancement the use of plants was a part of everyday life for food, clothing, medicine, cosmetics, perfumes and textiles. The interdependence between plants, insects and animals in our environment makes one realize how harmful human indifference can be. To be oblivious to the role each part of our creation serves is detrimental for ourselves and the earth we depend on for our own survival.

Aside from the environmentalist point of view our family looked to natural alternatives for very practical reasons. Systemic Lupus Erythmetosis, an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the body's own tissues, has been an unwelcome guest for quite some time.

Lupus patients can have a great sensitivity to the sun and have to be aware of skin protection and care. Tired of trying to decipher the ingredients of so many skin care products I began researching how to make my own. I began with facial moisturizers but it didn’t take long until my collection could be divided into categories.

We enjoy being able to take care of our own and be comfortable that in doing so we can follow the rule "first do no harm". Knowing exactly what is in each product gives me peace of mind and it was nice when others began to pick up on that and request things for themselves.

Ingredients used are purchased from reputable, certified organic companies or grown organically in my own gardens.

So Meadow Muffin Gardens went from a humorous nickname from my husband to a home business.

Shifting to natural body care gears you away from commercial hype concerning beauty and more towards trusting your own intuition. Feel nurtured and more spiritually in tune with what your body needs to remain in good health, which is the description of beauty.

Natural skin care rewards you with the knowledge of knowing what you are putting on your body, thereby reducing the chance of skin irritation or allergic reaction. However, immune systems differ, therefore there is always the risk of sensitivity even with natural products.

Everything serves a purpose in the life cycle. We can be companions to all of God's creation. We must learn to be leavers rather than takers from this world we were given stewardship. Come join us as we seek health and fulfillment while treading lightly upon the chosen path each of us was given.

The following blog post was one of my first and gives a little insight to the saying "everything in due time". We can look back on our lives and realize the wheels have been turning all along to lead us to where we are today, down every twisted turn in the road.

Welcome and thank you for visiting Meadow Muffin Gardens.

We provide personal care products to help you feel nurtured and spiritually in tune with your body. Beauty shouldn't be trying to create an image or cover up "flaws" with synthetic imitations encouraged by commercial hype.

Utilizing plants that grow right outside the back door heightens a partnership with nature. Base oils and essential oils are purchased from reputable sources who are proud to advertise their products as organic and of therapeutic grade.

Pure essential oils carry the medicinal, healing benefits of the entire plant which enhances the value of the finished product. That cannot be said of fragrance oils which are useful only for their scent.

You can use these body care products with a sense of confidence if you are prone to skin sensitivity or just conscience of synthetics. Immune systems function differently so there is always the risk of a sensitivity even with natural ingredients. Our products are hand-crafted and made to order when needed.

Our choice of containers for the products are environmentally friendly and easily recycled. The bottles are either #2 HDPE (white or see through plastic) or #1 PET plastic (clear or various colors). HDPE plastic bottles (High Density Polyethylene) are stiff and offer good impact resistance. PET plastic bottles (Polyethylene Terephthalate) are transparent and also very durable. Both types of plastic are very tolerant of products using essential oils. The tops are a spray mist, pop-up dispenser or a pump type. The jars are #5 PP white or see through plastic. The glass bottles are amber in color with glass dropper style caps.
Please help in our efforts to be earth friendly and either reuse or recycle the empty containers.

Payment
PayPal
PayPal is a service that securely facilitates online payments. You can use a credit card or PayPal account to submit payment for Etsy purchases without sharing financial information.
If you do not have a PayPal account but want to use a credit card, PayPal does allow you to purchase with a major credit card. However, there is a limit to how many times PayPal allows this without asking you to join PayPal. Should you not want to join PayPal you can choose to click on Direct Checkout or Other

Direct Checkout
Direct checkout enables shops to accept credit card payments through Etsy.
With direct checkout, you will be able to purchase an item without being redirected from Etsy or without the use of PayPal.

Should you choose Other:
Should you chose "Other", payment will be through personal check, money order, or Google Checkout. I cannot ship your order until your form of payment clears.

Google Checkout users:
I will send you an invoice which will have a secure link through Google checkout for you to enter your credit card information. You do have to open a Google account.

Orders are ordinarily shipped within 5-7 days of cleared payment. You will be notified by Etsy once the package has shipped. Should there be questions that need to be answered or if more time is needed to prepare the order, I'll contact you by e-mail.

Pennsylvania residents will be charged 6% sales tax.
Shipping
Packages are carefully wrapped to ensure it reaches its destination safely.
If the package weighs 13 oz. or less it will ship by USPS First Class Mail. If it is something perishable during the heat of the summer I'll send it Priority Mail. If the package is over 13 oz. it will automatically need to be sent Priority Mail.
Packages that ship Priority Mail are automatically insured up to a value of $50.

For buyers with multiple items, if they end up overpaying on the totaled shipping costs compared to the actual shipping costs, I will reimburse minus the packaging costs.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:

Should a buyer choose the Other option as payment please be aware that I cannot accept personal checks. There may be problems with a check drawn on a non-US bank in a foreign currency. In fact, I'm not sure our banks will accept the payment. Payment needs to be as an International Postal Money Order in USD.

Contents of the order are itemized on the custom forms which is the requirement of the seller. Customs duties are the responsibility of the buyer. Each country has different limits and it is up to the buyer to educate himself/herself on that particular country's fees. Custom fees are often based on the dollar value. Businesses are not allowed to mark an order as a gift, it is marked as merchandise.
Below is a helpful resource for finding out how much you may have to pay in fees:
http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
Due to restrictions on Bath and Beauty products we do not ship to Mexico

Please be patient with the shipping times for international orders. The minimum shipping time is about two weeks, but depending on location it could be a month or longer till the package arrives at the buyers address.
Refunds and Exchanges
Due to the nature of all natural perishable products and personal likes and dislikes, we cannot except returns. Should there be a problem, please contact me and we'll decide whether to refund or replace the item.

I want you to be satisfied with your purchase. If there is a fault with the product itself, you are entitled to a replacement or a full refund which would include the shipping costs.
If you simply do not like the product but have to admit there is nothing wrong with it, then I will offer you a refund on the order less the cost of shipping.

Please review the ingredient list of the product before purchasing and be aware of known allergies. Immune systems function differently so there is always the risk of a sensitivity even with natural ingredients. The preservatives used are an antimicrobial called grapefruit seed extract, the antioxidant Vit. E and the concentration of essential oils. These are a non-synthetic, natural means of extending shelf life but are not the broad spectrum preservatives found on the commercial market. Being the risk of contamination is always present in any perishable product please try to use the item within 6 months or keep in the refrigerator.
