I originally trained as a painter and when I found myself searching for a less toxic creative medium, working with textiles was an obvious choice. I have always loved beautiful fabrics, especially those made from natural fibres. In a relatively short amount of time I have amassed a large collection of lovely fabrics. Much of it is waste from the fashion and homewares industries which would otherwise go to landfill.

I work out of my light-filled home studio in Sydney, Australia and I am lucky to be accompanied by my big, beautiful tabby cat, Tex. I learnt to sew a few years ago, and once I developed my skills I became interested in sewing messenger bags as I liked the creative possibilites offered by a bag with a flat front flap. For me, it was like creating a 2D artwork, similar to a painting. I eventually developed an interest in creating soft toys, which I now see as a very natural progression from my painting days. The starting point for my artworks were toys, Snoopy or Mickey Mouse, or an anonymous teddy bear...little, adventurous characters, stepping out into the world.

I love creating my soft toys...it gives me pleasure to choose beautiful fabrics and play around until I have found the right combination of colour and texture. I often combine sewing with handknitting, a craft that connects me to my childhood. My little creatures are usually based on animals, a big, grey elephant, a chubby koala, a cheeky cat, or a sweet bunny. All creatures which grace this world and make it a sweeter place to live.
