This was a splurge for my daughter for Christmas and I'm SO glad I ordered it. You can feel the care that was put into making this purse. It's the perfect size for her to store her favorite things and the print it adorable. Thank you!!
How did a New Zealander end up living in Japan sewing bags?
After having two kids and being a stay at home mum for about five years the question on everyone's minds was when was I going back to work.
Returning to the corporate scene was very unappealing so I secretly started a blog where I worked through several small business ideas and asked for feedback from my readers. There were only a few readers at first, of course, but they were a huge support and source of encouragement.
So I tried card-making. Cake decorating, party planning and catering were other ideas.
It was when I was sewing for my son's kindergarten craft fair that I hit upon the idea of sewing for kids. I already knew that Japan produces the most amazing fabrics. Once I started looking at the fabrics for children I became absolutely hooked on them myself.
I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work. I just love seeing how a new fabric looks as a bag and feel a great sense of pride when I see how many bags I have made and sold over the past eight years.
So how did a New Zealander end up living in Japan sewing bags? Well I blame my husband for me staying in Japan - he was too great a catch to let go. As for sewing bags, sometimes you hit upon an idea that just seems right.
These days I balance my time between sewing, mainly as a hobby, and working with other creative entrepreneurs. Now that my kids are both at school I have returned to my main profession and work as a marketing consultant. I am still steering clear of corporate life. Suits and commuting are just not me anymore. Mee a Bee is still a wonderful creative outlet for me and I love it dearly.
Thanks for reading! I would love to hear from you or connect via any of the social media websites.

Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator
hello! I am Jacqui, a New Zealander living in Japan. I have been living here for nineteen years, have two children and am happily married to a great guy. I love sewing, especially bags but I also read a lot, swim in a Masters Club and do aquarobics.
My two sons have been a huge source of inspiration and motivation. They give the final approval for most of the boy's designs!
Both of my boys help with the business. Noah helps clean up my sewing room after the busy day of snipping threads. He has one frustrating habit - he moves stuff so I can't find it while he is at school! And he steals my scissors all the time!
Assistant, Customer Service
Mynoor is our administrative assistant who takes care of behind the scenes tasks like photo editing and product descriptions. You might occasionally get an email from him if the rest of the team is away.
I want you to be 100% happy with your purchases.
These things are important to me:
Natural materials, cotton and linen. All made in Japan. I support local businesses.
Safe, non-toxic materials, dyes and inks.
Non-commercial, imagination-inspiring designs. Whimsical, nostalgic, a little bit of yesteryear. Not too much pink(!) and attempts at gender-neutralism. Above all beautiful, simple and minimal style.
And, probably most important to me personally, tons of cool stuff for boys since I have two myself!
Grab a kid and take yourselves off on an adventure!
