I love Japanese retro design from the 1960s to the 1980s.

At that time in Japan, we handed out tenuguis as novelties for many companies and shops, as well as festivals, events, and commemorations of the upper building.
These towels are made of cotton and are colored by the traditional technique of casting.

I dye these tenuguis repeatedly with Kakishibu, a natural dye that has been used in Japan for a long time, and after exposing them to sunlight for a few days to create a unique texture, I make clothes.

I want many people in the world to know the wonderfulness of Japanese tenugui made in the good old days of Japan.

meihanaは、手ぬぐいや着物、風呂敷、旗など古くから日本人の生活文化の中で親しまれてきた布をアップサイクルして洋服を作っています。
手ぬぐいとは綿のタオルのような布で、それらを天然染料である柿渋（青い柿を何年も熟成させて作る植物の染料）で繰り返し手染めし、色を変えるには媒染と呼ばれる作業をします。
私が使っている着物の多くは昔の子供用の着物です。
着物は手作業で丁寧にほどいてから、虫食いや汚れなどを取り除き、生地を整えます。
それぞれの素材を生地としての準備を整えた後に、柄やデザインを考慮しながら何種類もパッチワークして洋服に仕立てます。
一つ一つの工程を妥協することなくこだわり、１着の洋服を作るのに１週間以上の時間をかけています。
ほとんどの生地は40年以上前のビンテージです。
