In the middle of hand forming some one of a kind, custom sterling silver ear wires. I love coming up with new designs and how the ear wires totally changes the entire look of earring. It's all about the little details.

About

Meet the artist - Melissa Pedersen

In 2009 I graduated from the Alberta College of Art & Design, I left with not only a fine arts degree (with Jewellery as my major!) but also with a strong sense of direction for my art and business. I love making jewellery, loosing track of time in my studio getting all caught up in the process and little details. In my sleep I dream about future designs, many times I wake up and need to grab my sketch book before I forget! Oh, and I am a tool junkie, my studio is well equipped to tackle most goldsmithing jobs.

Argentium sterling silver is my favourite material to work with, it is the same silver content as traditional sterling silver but it has great fusibility properties, stays cleaner as I work and can be heat hardened in my kiln (meaning it is simply amazing)

As a stay at home mom (my boys are 3, 2 and 6 months) my studio is my outlet, my time to unwind get creative. I love being able to be with my boys all day, they are incredibly energetic and so much fun, but when nap times comes around you can find me eagerly working on my jewellery business.

I fill every role of the business myself from the original design and making the jewellery to photographing and shipping!

I have started a second shop featuring a new fashion jewellery line handmade from upcycled bicycle and motorcycle inner tube. To check it out visit Lively Leaf Designs https://www.etsy.com/shop/LivelyLeafDesigns?ref=l2-shopheader-name

As a child my mother kept a very large, beautiful garden. She would plant colourful flowers and grow vegetables from seeds. After the long winter my mothers garden would come alive, the little pale green shoots seeming to have a pure innocence, unaware of the optimism they created. In a short time the empty earth would be celebrating, full of lush life, vibrant petals and bursting blooms.

It is in the garden that I find my inspiration, especially in the spring. The early sprout, the budding leaf, and the seed pod are symbols I use deliberately in my practice. These elements of new life represent for me perseverance, potential and hope. I realize life has many winter seasons, but it is also full of cycles. When a spring season enters my life I choose to capture it, and treasure it, using it as a reminder for the future. By capturing different elements of nature and using them in my jewellery I am able to preserve and treasure what may only be here for a fleeting moment.
