De creatieve weirdo achter Mere Creates is grafisch ontwerper Meredith Anne - of Mere zoals haar vrienden en familie haar noemen. Mere begon haar reis in de kunst als kind en ontwikkelde haar vaardigheden echt op de middelbare school. Toen het tijd werd om te studeren, had Mere grote dromen om in niemand minder dan... New York City te wonen! Ze ging tijdens haar eerste jaar naar Parsons en ze vond het heerlijk om in de stad te wonen, maar ze vond het moeilijk om vrienden te maken en miste haar huis erg. In 2011 stapte Mere over naar de Universiteit van Delaware, waar ze grafische vormgeving bleef studeren en ze vond het heerlijk om weer thuis te zijn! In de zomer van 2013 mocht ze 5 weken in Londen studeren in het buitenland! Gedurende deze tijd heeft ze talloze ontwerpbureaus bezocht en de reis was zo inspirerend.
In 2014 studeerde Mere af aan de UD met haar BFA in Visuele Communicatie! Niet lang daarna begon ze te werken voor een tijdschriftproductiebureau, waar ze legale advertenties ontwierp. Hoewel het heel goed werk was en ze het niet erg vond om te doen, had ze het gevoel dat ze niet zo creatief kon zijn als ze wilde...advocatenkantoren willen toch niet echt kleurrijke zeemeerminnen en eenhoorns in hun advertenties...
In een poging haar creativiteit weer aan te boren, begon Mere zich in 2017 met digitale kunst bezig te houden via haar iPad Pro en Apple Pencil. Al snel vond ze een enorme passie voor digitale illustraties en begon ze kunstscènes voor auteurs te maken op een interactieve verhaalapp genaamd Episode. Ze kreeg een aanzienlijke fanbase via de online community op Instagram, maar ze wilde zich gaan uitbreiden vanuit de Episode-community.
Al snel vond ze een platform waarmee ze haar kunstwerken op verschillende producten kon uploaden en verkopen. Ze heeft via dit platform een paar verkopen gedaan, maar ze was niet blij met hoe duur de producten haar klanten kostten en ze wilde een manier vinden om goedkopere producten te maken.
Etsy ontmoet Mere!
Mere is altijd al handig geweest en weet hoe ze dingen helemaal opnieuw moet maken, en daarom besloot ze de overstap te maken naar Etsy-verkoper! Ze investeerde in een Cricut-machine en had al vanaf haar studententijd een goede printer. Met haar iPad in de hand begon ze woedend illustraties te maken voor verschillende producten: stickers, bladwijzers, schetsboeken en meer!
Mere is een grote fan van felle kleuren, illustraties in aquarel- en inktstijl en kunst in vectorstijl, maar ze is ook een fan van donkere/punk/gothische stijlen. Mogelijk zie je een mix van beide in de winkel!
The creative weirdo behind Mere Creates is graphic designer Meredith Anne - or Mere as her friends and family call her. Mere began her journey in in art as a child, really developing her skill in middle school and high school. When it came time for college, Mere had big dreams of living in none other than... New York City! She attended Parsons for her freshman year, and she loved living in the city, but she found it hard to make friends and missed her home a lot. In 2011, Mere transferred to the University of Delaware where she continued to study graphic design and she loved being home again! In the summer of 2013 she got to study abroad for 5 weeks in London! During this time she got to visit tons of design agencies and the trip was so inspiring.
In 2014, Mere graduated from UD with her BFA in Visual Communications! Not long after, she began working for a magazine production office, designing legal ads. While it was a very good job that she didn't mind doing, she felt like she couldn't be as creative as she wanted...law firms don't really want colorful mermaids and unicorns in their ads after all...
In an effort to tap back into her creativity, in 2017 Mere began to dabble in digital art via her iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Soon she found a huge passion for digital illustration and she began making art scenes for authors on an interactive story app called Episode. She grew a sizable fanbase through the online community on Instagram but she wanted to begin branching out from the Episode community.
Soon she found a platform that allowed her to upload her artwork onto a variety of products and sell them. She made a few sales using this platform but she wasn't happy with how expensive the products cost her customers and she wanted to find a way to make cheaper products.
Etsy meet Mere!
Mere has always been handy and has a knack for knowing how to make things from scratch, and so she decided to make the switch to being an Etsy seller! She invested in a Cricut machine and she already owned a good printer from her college days. With her iPad in hand, she began furiously creating illustrations for various products - stickers, bookmarks, sketchbooks, and more!
Mere is a big fan of bright colors, watercolor and ink style illustrations and vector style art, but she is also a fan of dark/punk/goth styles. You may see a mix of both in the shop!
