Announcement WELCOME TO MY SHOP! My paintings are a reflection of the pursuit to find a simple statement of the self, land, and elements. They represent an attention that is both outward and inward. Some work is more abstract focusing on the interior life. Other pieces such as the landscapes, search for a view to the world material. They represent my own artistic process and the catalyst for producing both. For updates check out my facebook page at www.facebook.com/SamuelLPaden.

Have you ever looked down at the ground beneath your feet while you walked – or noticed how that factory on the way to work seems to change shape when it rains? In a fast-moving world these places easily melt into background noise attracting a rare glance. These are the environments that bring artist Samuel Paden to look at how wind, sky, and water alters the perspective of landscapes.
“I often recall the words of the poet Mary Oliver: ‘Meanwhile the world goes on . . . the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers . . . Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination . . . over and over announcing your place in the family of things.’ My paintings are a reflection of the pursuit to find a simple statement of the self, land, and elements.”
Paden was raised in Central Africa, lived in Iceland and now resides in the United States. “I use this far flung background to find my place in the surrounding landscape," said Paden.

Some important notes on the care of your purchased painting:
For the sake of long term care of your artwork, it is recommended that it be hung in low light and never in direct sun. This will help preserve the vitality of the color and prevent damage to the substrate from extreme changes in temperature.
If you are interested in and/or purchased an encaustic piece there are a few things you should be particularly careful to note. They are as follows*:
Encaustic is a wax based paint (composed of beeswax, resin and pigment), that is kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied to a porous surface and then reheated in order to fuse the paint. Encaustic is also the most durable artists' paint. This is due to the fact that beeswax is impervious to moisture. Because of this, it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow, and it will not darken. Encaustic paintings do not have to be varnished or protected by glass.
DO NOT hang your encaustic painting in direct sun, near a heat source such as a vent, fireplace, or radiator. Do NOT transport your encaustic paintings in a hot car or leave it there while shopping. KEEP OUT of direct sun light and keep at normal room temperatures. Avoid freezing and extremely hot temperatures. The wax paints melt and run at 162 F.
ALWAYS protect the surface and edges of the encaustic painting when moving it. Although the surface is completely dry, encaustic paintings can be scratched, gouged, or chipped if handled roughly. When moving you can wrap the work in wax paper and then carefully wrap in bubble wrap taking note to leave the bubbles facing out away from the surface of the painting so it will not leave imprints on the surface of the painting.
Encaustic paintings can be buffed to a high gloss using a soft, lint free cloth. This sheen dulls over time and can be brought back by repeating the process.
