About

Earthy, Eclectic, Occasionally Magical, and Usually Covered in Clay

Mesiree is actually two people. Mary and Desiree. We're kind of a hive mind really. Or, as the story goes and the logo shows, two heads of the same coin (it's kind of a messed up coin). Between the two of us we make beautiful, functional, earthy pottery. On our own we each make...well...nothing you'd like to buy. Codependency has its perks.

We have each lived and breathed the creative process since we were young, trying out every medium from paint to fabric to mud. And mud calls to us in a way nothing else does. Maybe because it's messy, maybe because its texture and form can vary so wildly, maybe because there is no other medium that allows you to create such beauty from nothing. We start in the morning with a bucket of muck and end the day surrounded by our innumerable creations.

Neither of us could dream of a better life.

It's that variation of texture and feeling of raw creativity that we try to capture in our pottery. We try to use varied surface treatments and a limited pallet to bring out the earthy, eclectic and sometimes magical life of our pieces.

We work out of a homey little studio in a charming little town. Our creative process starts with a bike ride to work and the daily business plan over tea. Then we are up to our elbows in clay until lunch. Remembering to stop and eat is hard when you are doing something you love. The afternoon is spent adding handles, carving designs on our pieces, and loading the kiln if we are ready to fire. Sometimes stepping out of the studio at the end of the day is the hardest part of our job.

This is how we list two people as one owner.

  • Desiree` Anderson

    Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator

I have been a maker and a creative my entire life. Having my hands and my workspace covered in my ideas is one of the things that makes me the happiest. I strive to put some earthy, wild personality into everything I make.

  • Mary Brown

    Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator

I always have to be making something. It's a compulsion. Knitting in class, origami in the office, really it's best that I'm an artist professionally. I get in less trouble. Besides, I love bringing out the beauty in functional pieces.

  • Grace Crawford

    Assistant, Designer, Ray Of Sunshine

An up and coming writer who spends her free time helping out in the studio. Indispensable minion supreme.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

We do not do any custom orders as our show schedule is too busy to accommodate them.

Care instructions

All our mugs are food, microwave and dishwasher safe. Good for hot or cold beverages. Use them the same as you would any normal coffee mug.

Trades

This is our full time day job. Unfortunately, we can't do any trades, we have to pay the bills.

Variations (Color, Handedness, Etc)

Unless specified in the listing you may not receive the exact mug pictured, that includes handedness (everyone seems to have a different definition of handedness). We list our mugs by design and color. If you have concrete opinions on which way the design should face when held in a particular hand please contact us before you order to make sure the handedness you desire is in stock.

Glaze colors are difficult to convey by digital media. We try very hard to get our pictures true to color, but due to the reflective and dynamic nature of glaze as well as the differences between monitor settings they may not be exact.

What if an item arrives broken?

Please make sure to inspect your item upon receipt. If any of our ware is damaged when you receive it please let us know immediately and we'll take care of you!

Why don't you use bubble wrap?

Because it's terrible. Seriously.

We found that no matter how many layers of bubble wrap we use rims and handles always manage to find a space between the bubbles and break. Since switching to heavy indented kraft paper as our packaging material our breakage rate is almost zero.

Also, it is recycled and recyclable!

Is there a discount on shipping multiple mugs?

Sadly, no. In the interest of getting each and every mug to its new home in one, solid, undamaged piece we ship each mug individually. We won't make exceptions on it. Too many tears have been shed.
