Additional policies and FAQs
Sterling silver, copper, and brass will tarnish with exposure to the air. The best way to keep tarnish in check is to wear your jewelry frequently, as the natural oils in your skin help to prevent oxidation. Mixed metal jewelry should be lightly cleaned with a silver polishing cloth. To avoid removing intentional oxidation (patina), polish only the highlights of the piece, and avoid the recessed areas.

Many people wear copper for good health, particularly to relieve the symptoms of arthritis. For other people, their skin reacts to the copper and turns green (this washes off). This is most likely to happen with copper bracelets and rings. Many of my pieces are designed so that copper is soldered to a sterling silver backing and never touches the skin. I also carry copper earrings on silver earwires, and copper pendants.

Because mining is damaging to the environment, I use after-market metals whenever possible. I purchase recycled sterling silver from Hoover and Strong, as well as collecting and melting old broken silver scrap myself. Copper and brass are obtained from the scrap yard and thrift shops. I do purchase some findings and silver chain new, and occasionally other materials in a pinch. Most of my pieces are composed of at least 80% post-consumer materials.
