Who is Metals & Pieces?

M & P is a sister trio consisting of myself (Melissa), my sister Allie and our rescued puppy-sister Winnie. We are determined to bring the empowering style of chainmaille into the lives of superwomen everywhere. We believe in reminding every woman of their inner strength and encouraging each one to show off that badass inner warrior through our jewelry designs. We’re also passionate about ridiculously long drives, Chevy trucks, and pie.

Why chainmaille?

I fell down the rabbit hole in discovering chainmaille. What started out as a random ‘how-to’ book find on a retail therapy day, bought on a whim for shits and giggles, gave my life a rapid 180 degree change, and then proceeded to infect the lives of those around me—or mostly Allie.

Well what is chainmaille?

Badass crochet anyone? Chainmaille is a series of interwoven rings connected in sheets to make everything from small decorative items such as earrings up to enormous garments like bras, dresses, and entire suits of armor. Armor is probably what you’re most familiar with. Knights, joust and battle, crusades, the Medieval period, turkey legs and potatoes…

Historically speaking, chainmaille was used as armor either by itself or as a shirt underneath full plate armor. The mesh prevented or lessened most stabby style wounds, turning what would have been a gusher into a mere bruise (not even a flesh wound). At that point steel was the metal of choice, and the density of the weave (or interlocking chain pattern) determined how protected the body was, and also had something to do with the extreme weight of the garment. Steel garments could weigh in at upwards of 60 lbs! (Which would be why we use aluminum: 1/3 of the weight, plus no rust!)

Fast forward to today and why should we care about any of this. Chainmaille is ancient history, yes?

NO.

Wrong.

Think again.

Chainmaille armor is still worn! Well, in a utilitarian fashion. Butchers use chainmaille gloves while chopping meat. Some divers wear entire suits when dealing with sharks. And a small sponge sized section is fantastic for scrubbing cast iron pots.

But that’s not what we’re talking about.

All quips aside, chainmaille jewelry is the definition of badass. These weaves and patterns have a heritage that still speaks to us even in the modern day. Each weave evokes the ancient power that warriors of old are known for. Wear your strength on your sleeve. Show people your courage and that you’re not afraid to flaunt it. Every weave, from the most delicate to the most armor-esque screams power and independence. We are our own greatest warriors, so why not show it off?

Designing chainmaille jewelry took me from an introvert who simply studied history to a confident woman who brings the power of history into each modern creation. Allow me to share my inspirations with you. No matter your style, there’s a weave that fits your look while giving you the extra umph you deserve. And no matter the piece you choose, your badassery will always shine through.

Payment
We currently accept Paypal. Tax will be applied to orders being delivered in New York State only. If tax is not applied through Etsy it will be invoiced through Paypal.
Shipping
Processing time for orders is normally 3-5 business days. If processing time is expected to be longer you will receive an email stating such within 24 hours to open a conversation about processing.

All packages are sent USPS Priority mail. Each item is packaged in a decorative jewelry box and shipped in a bubble wrap lined envelope to ensure they are protected.

Tracking is included on every package. Please message me if you are interested in adding insurance.
Refunds and Exchanges
We do our best to produce a product you will love and enjoy wearing! However if you are unhappy with the product for any reason please notify us immediately.

Sizing Issues

If you receive the jewelry item and it does not fit correctly alterations are done on an individual basis. If the sizing mistake is on the part of Metals and Pieces then we cover return shipping, resize, and ship back out to the client. If the mistake is on the part of the client (i.e. gave incorrect sizing instructions) they are responsible for return shipping and a minimum alteration charge of $5.

Refunds

If you wish to return the item it must be in “as sold” condition and we must be notified within 14 days of delivery. You then have the choice between store credit or we can refund the amount through Paypal within 10 business days. If there are extenuating circumstances, i.e. you were traveling, item is a gift, or medical ailments please message us so we can discuss further options.

Exchanges

Items may be exchanged for an item of equal value (return shipping not included). If the exchange is for a higher cost item then you will be invoiced for the additional amount through Paypal.
Additional policies and FAQs
There is a six month guarantee on the chain-work of all products sold. If we are notified of the damage within that time period there is a no-questions-asked repair. Damages after six months are assessed and repairs priced on an individual basis. In both cases the client is responsible for all shipping charges.
