Introducing LA POLEA artist collective!

Buy original art works directly from the artists in their studios.

As part of our art practice we produce a multitude of smaller works and drawings that form an essential part of each artistic project. These pieces are often overshadowed by the final pieces exhibited. However, in themselves they hold a particular value as moments when idea starts to develop as series or as stand alone surprise revelations that somehow don't fit with the rest of the exhibition.
We have created La Polea on etsy as a platform to give limelight to these never before shown gems! By making them available at affordable prices we hope they can find new homes to be appreciated in!

For more information on who LA Polea Collective are please visit:

we only sell original artworks with the listings and not the rights to reproduction. If you are interested in purchasing the rights to reproduction please contact us directly.

Is a simple machine used to transmit force.

It is often used to help to lift things up.

La Polea exists as a dynamic evolving art project set up by artists Anna McNeil and Charity Blansit to investigate the role of art and its potential as a form of communication and its place in contemporary society.
The accessibility of art contrasted with the exclusivity often implied by the market and gallery system is something that we want to investigate through the project.
We are searching for a liberation from the rigid compartments in which art is categorized as high or low, conceptual or decorative, valuable or common, imposed by its market definition and the institutional structure.
Considering the artists’ relationship to the market and his dependency on it to provide a means of him continuing to make work.
Through our interventions we question the dominance of commercial values and an elitism that restricts or allows an artist to spread his work to a wider or particular audience and what boundaries this enforces on its definition as art.
We play the roles of curators, teachers, critics and commercial agents, as well as various artists whose work represents different camps in the field of contemporary art: the philosopher, the bohemian, the conceptualist, the protester.
The project weaves together the narratives of these characters, whose work often shares a common author, throwing up questions on the value of authorship and the relevance of a contextual narrative from the biographic details of the artist.

Activities we do:

• Exhibitions
• Etsy shop; affordable original works sold directly from our studio focusing on paintings and sketches that form part of our process.
Allowing first time buyers the opportunity to own an original artwork instead of a print.
• La Polea exchange project; an investigative project that opens up the possibilities for the exchange of artworks for a concrete product or service. Taking the exchange of money out of the equation.
• Collaborations with interior designers, events organizers and photographers using artworks to create environments.
• Collaborations with theatre companies and scenery projects.
• Independence and freedom in inviting people to participate in our practice and our projects.
• Public art making and workshops.

La Polea project was born as the collective development of our own independent art practices.
It was created to allow us the freedom to offer our art to many different publics.
With the aim of breaking down market restrictions and elitism about on who can own original artwork, we offer the opportunity to collaborate in the artistic process in a more intimate and direct manner.
We aim to reinstate the value of art making as a language to which everybody can have access and dispel the myth that there are only certain ways to understand a work of art.
We want to reject the idea that you have to some prior education about the artwork or the artist to appreciate the work. Throwing out the redundant phrases ‘I don’t know anything about art’ and ‘I cannot draw’ (can you write?) from our embedded cultural vision.
