About

Chicago to San Francisco >>>

Original Art + Vintage finds.

1. The Vintage: old, interesting things I come across that I feel should be given new life. Cleaned up, unaltered, looking for a new home.

2. The Repurposed Vintage: Sometimes I find an interesting object that's "on its last legs" or maybe a common, old item that no one seemed to want. I repurpose to give it new life, while keeping the integrity of the vintage item as is.

3. Original Artworks: Way back when, I admired slick, polished illustration & comic books that left not a hint of process. I also appreciated the grittiness of graffiti, band flyers, music zines and posters made in the “cut and paste” style. Both ways working, though the two styles might seem at odds, usually play into my work. More often than not, my subject is people/portraits. The art in my shop ends up being a combination of all of these influences.

This shop is a place for me to share the random output from my studio.

How:
I often make art on odd, discarded, or junk surfaces- I like to re-use.
A slick looking finish does not interest me as much as it once did.
An imperfect / weathered / marred surface is a great thing.
Most likely, I will paint it up, scratch it away, and then paint over it again.
I like to fight with the surface.
It's OK for the steps to be visible.
Maybe add some text.
I prefer muted and/or dark colors.

Originally from Chicago, I relocated to S.F. in 2005. I draw people 98% of the time. They're more fascinating than landscapes & still-life, no? Between making 2D art, I sometimes make sculptures, salvage vintage stuff, and sometimes tinker with it.
