5 out of 5 starsIncredibly beautiful piece of art. The artist did an amazing job wrapping it and providing significant protection while shipping. Beyond the artwork, the information about the art, its intended display, and care was incredibly appreciated. I had a wonderful experience with this artist and plan to purchase from them again in the future.

Finely Carved Sculptural Artworks
Mike shapes wood into sculptural art forms. He uses his background in Design and Fine Arts to build forms that he hopes others find meaningful and mysterious. Starting with sketching he finds forms which possess that spark he is looking for. Mike has a collection of hand tools from around the world he has specifically chosen to suit his work. He especially likes Japanese tools like the ryoba saw which he uses for removing the initial waste off the block. Once the sculpture is roughed out in the wood, it's time to finish the final contours, form and surface with care and attention to details. For this, the draw knife, rasp, mora knife, Japanese skew knife and scraper are among his preferred tools. By carving beautifully sharp contours and lines, the forms have been said to possess a subtle tranquility. One of the primary influences in his art are traditional Japanese aesthetic principles such as "shizenteki": the reverence for nature in art.
Mike has also combined painting and woodworking for coffee shop interiors. He is constantly seeking new formal solutions and inspiration for his work.
The artworks are highly refined and the utmost care is taken to ship them safely and quickly. New works are added regularly so check back soon!
