Announcement   Individually created unique kiln-formed glass pieces...

Using color, texture and form in light-catching glass work.

Mille-feuilles in French literally means "one thousand leaves" and refers to a multi-layered pastry. Like the pastry, my glass work is comprised of layers of colored glass that are fused together, then shaped using molds, some of them I created. The resulting 3-dimensional pieces evoke depth through color, light, and form.

In addition to color, natural forms and impermeable perfection are among my work influences. No two pieces are exactly alike. Try placing a piece where it can catch the light.

Due to the nature of handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces, size, texture and colors vary. I do my best to produce high-quality work. If a piece leaves my studio, it is because it meets my exacting standards.

All listed items are in stock and ready to ship. If you would like something not listed, please send me an email. All pieces are made in the US, signed and dated. They are dishwasher safe, but I recommend hand washing them.

About

Depth and dimension through colored glass

My name is Deborah and I am the maker and designer behind Mille-Feuilles Glass.

Originally from Southern California, close to the Pacific Ocean, as a child, I used to frame imaginary photographs with my hands and click the imaginary shutter. I also always loved color: flowers, shells, feathers, gemstones, insect wings, fish scales... Art was a favorite school subject that was stopped for more "practical" studies in college. Although a short stint in film school and a degree in journalism are still not really "practical." Journalism, I thought would enable my other passion, travel. It did enable me to move north to the San Francisco Bay Area and have a career in technical writing and management in Silicon Valley as the area's high tech companies flourished in the 1990s.

My timing in high tech was fortunate, so when I left the high tech corporate world in 2001, my husband said to "go find what you love." Because of that early love of colored gemstones, I started taking metalsmithing, casting, and jewelry fabrication classes. Felting and kiln-formed glass classes followed; I am a lifelong learner. Not only did I return to art, I realized I am a 3-D (3-dimensional) person. In addition to color, I am drawn to natural forms and how they occupy space and how texture creates depth.

In 2009, I took my first kiln-formed or "warm" glass class. I was so "hooked," I bought a big used kiln in 2010. My glass work combines color and form -- colored sheet glass, stringers (thin rods of glass), and frit (different sized bits of glass from coarse to powder) that are fused together, then formed using molds, some made by me. Kiln-formed glass allows me to work alone at my slow and deliberate pace in my exacting way. I hope my work illustrates form and depth through color and texture.

I do my best to accurately describe and depict the items in my shop. Please remember that all items are one-of-a-kind, handmade and therefore vary and have imperfections. No two are exactly alike. JEWELRY POLICY, PLEASE READ
-------------------------------------------------------
All jewelry offered in my shop is NOT repairable NOR refundable, because each setting is made for that specific piece(s) of glass. If the glass breaks, a new piece must be purchased. However, if you return the setting to the studio, I will have the metal recycled/refined. I will deduct a nominal amount that I determine, depending on market and refining costs toward the new piece.

If the setting (the metal portion) fails, please take a picture and send it to the studio as soon as possible. The buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping. Thank you for understanding.
Payment
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.

Custom orders may require a non-refundable 50% deposit, depending on the order.
Shipping
I use the U.S. Postal Service for shipping. Your item(s) will ship within 1-3 business days of payment receipt, unless otherwise notified. Orders purchased on Saturdays, Sundays, and U.S. Federal holidays will be shipped the following workday. Items weighing 13 ounces or less will usually be shipped via First-Class Mail (US), international orders with USPS First Class International, all others through Priority Mail.

NOTE on INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. Please do not request that the item be sent as a gift. If you are uncertain about your local customs laws, please research these expenses, before ordering. I am not responsible for delays due to customs.

Please make sure the shipping address is a secure location. I cannot take responsibility for stolen packages. In the event of stolen/lost/unclaimed/undeliverable packages, refunds are not provided.

I re-use boxes and packing material. Each item is packed with many layers of bubble wrap, packing peanuts and so forth. I take great care to ensure your item(s) arrive safely.

Thank you for understanding.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders or commissioned work is handled on an individual case basis, which includes feasibility of the order (if I can create what you request), cost, delivery schedule (how much time I need to deliver your order with my other work), shipping charges, and order stage approval (if you like how the piece is developing and want to continue or not). Depending on the complexity or feasibility of the order, I may require a 50% non-refundable deposit (to start the order, purchase the glass, etc).
