Ich fing an, darüber nachzudenken, Stifte zu machen, nachdem ein lokaler Freund mir einige seiner ... Ich kaufte eine für meinen Sohn, die bald im Einsatz war. Ein "Kugel"-Stift, er ist ein USAF-Verteidiger, und ich bin sehr stolz.
Als ich konnte, fing ich an, Ausrüstung, Drehmaschine, Säge, Schleifer usw. zu besorgen. Und fing an, einige grundlegende Stifte zu machen. Die Idee für den Shop hat ihre Wurzeln in einem militärischen/patriotischen Thema, daher der Name MilPens. Ich mache jetzt nicht nur Militärstifte, sondern auch ein paar schöne Alltagsstifte, Füllfederhalter und verwende einige exotische Materialien.
Der Prozess ist für die meisten Stifte derselbe... ein Materialblock 3/4x3/4x5", geschnitten in obere und untere Längen des Stiftes {manchmal nur 1), dann zentriert gebohrt. Ein Messingrohr wird in der Mitte mit Epoxidharz eingeführt, nach dem Absetzen wird es auf der Holzdrehmaschine montiert und mit Holzwerkzeugen gedreht, um es zu formen und zu dimensionieren. Je nach Material wird es von 150 -220 Körnung bis zu 12000 Körnung in einigen Fällen geschliffen. Dann in Öl und Wachs oder einem "CA" -Finish ausgeführt, das das Material in Kunststoff schützt.
Budgetbeschränkungen und Gesundheit haben mich ausgebremst, aber das ändert :)
Es ist meine Hoffnung, dass Sie sich meine Arbeit ansehen und Fragen stellen werden, wenn Sie etwas Individuelles wollen, bin ich sicher, dass ich helfen kann. I started to think about making pens after a local friend had showed me some of his...I purchased one for my son that was going on deployment soon. A "bullet" type pen, he is a USAF Defender, and I am very proud.
When I was able, I started to get equipment, lathe, saw, sander, etc. And started making some basic pens. The idea for the shop has it roots in a Military/Patriotic theme, hence the name MilPens. I now not only do Military pens, but also some nice everyday pens, fountain pens, and use some exotic materials.
The process is the same for most pens...a block of material 3/4x3/4x5", cut into top and bottom lengths of pen {sometimes just 1), then center drilled. A brass tube is inserted in the center with epoxy, after its set it is mounted on the wood lathe and turned with wood tools to shape and size. Depending on the material, it will be sanded from 150 -220 grit all the way up to 12000 grit in some cases. Then finished in oil and wax, or a "CA" finish, which in effect protects the material in plastic.
Budget restraints and health have slowed me down, but that is changing :)
