My little hobby...

My grandmother taught me to crochet once I was old enough to sit still and make a simple chain. I made a scarf for my dad that summer. It was truly hideous and too short but it was the length of my attention span.

I kind of toyed with crocheting off and on for several years. Sometimes it was something necessary such as dishcloths or hot pads. Other times it was for a gift such as a pretty doily for my mother-in-law or fancy dish towels for my mom, a beautiful afghan for a dear friend battling cancer, new booties for a new nephew.

I have been married to my best friend for 22 years now and we have three children and two dogs. Of my two girls, one crochets, one does not. I adore them both and in the end, whether the one has made it herself or the other has begged and pleaded with mom for what she wants, they both love anything and everything crocheted. Both truly enjoy crafting and there is nothing better than an evening spent with both of them, playing with ribbon, yarn, paper, buttons and thread and burning fingers on hot glue strings. We're not just building something for our shop on Etsy, we're building memories they'll always have.

I'm not a shop owner on Etsy because I believe it will provide a monthly income that will sustain our family. I am here because I love to share what I create with others. If I could recreate the love and laughter that surrounds each of my finished products as they're being made and sell that, then I think I could quit my regular job. Until that family time with the giggles and the burnt fingertips and the smell of a fresh pot of coffee brewing or bread baking in the oven or cookies cooling in-between crocheted rounds can be bottled, I'll just continue with my little hobby.
