Refurbished and Vintage

Mint Home was started by Jessie and Keisha in 2009 and offers refurbished furniture largely from the mid century. Each piece is sanded raw, hand painted/stained using low to no voc paints, and sealed with water based polycrylic. We reroute drawer tracks, re-stain the inside of drawers, and re-glue any loose joints to make each piece look and feel like new. Occasionally, we come across pieces in near “Mint” condition, and are able to offer those “as is.” So, if you’re a mid century purist, we’ve got something for you, too!

In 2012, Mint Home expanded from an online enterprise to a brick and mortar store in the North Center neighborhood. In concert with our vintage furniture, we now are able to offer a wide array of products handmade by local and national artisans. Screen printed pillows and tea towels, hand poured candles, original art prints, handmade air planters, makers kits, irreverent cards and more await you! In addition, we pick up all sorts of smalls from our travels, and offer these unique treasures alongside the furniture and handmade goods.

As parents, Jessie and I see an urgent need to move businesses back to more sustainable models and Mint Home was born out of a strong desire to do our part. When you shop local, you have the unique privilege of knowing exactly who you support and we think this is wonderful way to not only build community, but positively impact our environment. We don’t deal in disposable goods from distant lands. Instead, every item you purchase is one of a kind and we can tell you where each handmade item was made and by whom. We think that’s pretty special!

Returns and exchange details
All vintage pieces are sold as is and all sales are final. Please be sure that vintage furniture is right for your needs and home before purchase. Ask plenty of questions before purchase and request color samples as computer monitor colors can vary. We do not offer refunds, exchanges, or store credits as shipping large items is expensive and time consuming.

CANCELLATIONS: Can be made within 24 hours of purchase provided the item has not shipped. After the initial 24 for period all sales are final.

For large furniture items, it is imperative that you examine the condition of your package upon arrival. In order to fully protect yourself, please open your package at Greyhound or in front of a XPO shipping professional and inspect for damage. Should you find your piece in unsatisfactory condition, do not accept the package under any circumstance. We cannot stress this enough. Once you have accepted a package, you are taking on any liability for the piece thereafter. We cannot assist you with a claim, nor can we offer you relief if you have signed for and accepted the piece. If you reject the piece, however, it can be returned to us for repair. So, please, please take the steps necessary to protect your purchase.
You can cancel your order within 24 hrs of purchase without penalty. After the initial 24 hr period ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Please read all of our shop policies and understand shipping is not included in the price of your piece and therefore an additional expense.

We do charge Illinois Start Tax for residents.
Prior to purchase please convo with your shipping zip code for an accurate shipping rate. Shipping prices can vary greatly depending on your location.

We try to ship as soon as humanly possible. Sometimes, however, life does get in the way. We will try to ship within three business days of purchase for small home decor items through Fedex Ground. That being said, it usually takes about three to five days to receive your item from the time of purchase.

For larger furniture items as well as some larger wall hangings, we ship via Greyhound Package XPress, Manna Freight or, depending on the weight of the piece.

- For Greyhound (100lbs or less), we need both your Greyhound station of preference and a contact phone number to ship. Greyhound quotes 3-10 business days for your package to arrive. This is a terminal to terminal service, so you will be responsible for arranging for pickup of your piece/pieces at the station. Greyhound does have a courier service in most areas that you may set up on your end (additional fees apply) if you need delivery to your home.

- For Manna (100lbs or more), we will need a contact phone number to ship. We cannot complete your order without this information and cannot accept responsibility for delays in shipment because we do not have this information.

- is a great alternative for in home delivery. Their rates are comparable to XPO and Greyhound including inside delivery to your home. You are welcome to setup shipping using uship for any purchase.

- For Skyrocket Services we will need a contact number upon ordering for delivery. We cannot complete your order without this information and cannot accept responsibility for delays in shipment because we do not have this information. Upon pickup Skyrocket Services quotes delivery to New York in 7 - 14 days. This is just a quote. There is a possibility your piece could take up to 4 weeks to deliver depending on outside unforeseeable factors. Your initial shipping charge is for threshold delivery to your home. Should you want the piece to be delivered beyond the threshold of your home there is an additional fee of $50. Please reach out to us prior to pickup of your item with any special requests, we are happy to help!

Please allow up to fourteen business days before your item is shipped. Should you need the item to be held for any additional amount of time please contact us prior to purchase. Additional fees for holding the piece may apply.

Mint Home ships through third party carriers and cannot, therefore, be held liable for shipping delays, swapped packages, damages, or lost/stolen items. Any issues have to be reported to and taken up with the carrier responsible. We will do our utmost to assist you with claims in any way.
Additional policies and FAQs
Pick-up in Chicago is welcome and free for any item! Use coupon code: "localpickup" upon checkout to remove shipping charges. We are also happy to deliver curbside for a $40.00 delivery charge to the Chicago area. Please convo to discuss.

We do not hold pieces under any circumstances as we are in a very small workspace. If you need pieces held, please be aware that after the first week a $25 per week storage fee will accrue.

If you are an out of state customer and are having your item shipped please inspect your package thoroughly prior to signing off and accepting the piece. Once you have accepted the piece you are accepting its condition upon receipt. If damage has occurred during the shipping process by the shipping company we will be happy to exchange your damaged item for store credit towards the purchase of another piece. Shipping charges are insured and will be refunded via the shipping company directly to you after the claims process has ended.

A note about our pieces:

We choose vintage items in all shapes, sizes, styles, and weights. Some pieces have dovetail joints and are solid wood, some are not. They are usually priced according to all these factors. Our main goal is to keep these pieces affordable for our customer while saving dated pieces from the landfill. If you have certain expectations regarding functionality or construction, please convo us to discuss.

Please be aware that we use water based products that have less environmental impact. They do respond unfavorably to humidity and high heat. If you intend to place a piece of painted furniture in a non climate controlled environment, you may experience movement/swelling of the wood and surface tackiness. We cannot be held responsible for functionality issues due to your environment.
