About MiriamsKiln

Sales 1,236
On Etsy since 2011
Video summary: Throwing, trimming and carving bowls.

I've been making pottery professionally for over 30 years.

As of April 2020 my entire home and studio are completely solar powered! Our roof produces enough energy to power all of our energy needs. I am working on using as much re-usable packing material as possible to cut down on my carbon footprint while still shipping my pottery safely to your door.

For years I sold pottery in more traditional ways. I had work in galleries, shops and sold at art fairs, and I would have an annual studio sale at my home. Then a friend, Michelle, convinced me to put my work on Etsy, and at this point almost all of my sales are through my Etsy shop.

There are a couple of things I think are important for you to know about me. I have been honing my craft for a long time. I love pots and love to hold them, use them and appreciate them. I really enjoy making functional things that are useful and beautiful to look at. I love going to people's homes and seeing my pottery in use. Many of my pots that I use have survived my four kids using them to eat on, washing them, putting them away, and setting the table. They are sturdy and hold up to use - so please use them!

I have a BFA and an MFA in ceramics. That means I have learned a lot about my field. I have formulated my clay bodies to do exactly what I want them to do, and I have created all of my slips and glazes. Everything is food safe and I am constantly testing and tweaking my glazes to make them the best they can be. Almost every firing has at least one new glaze test in the kiln. I try to work in my studio as much as possible. There are so many more pots in my head than time in the day to make them. I really appreciate how Etsy has made it so my pots can be seen and purchased by you, and everyone else around the world.
