Mild bleeding is quite common with hand dyed yarns, especially for semi-solids. While I make every attempt to minimize the bleeding in my skeins, dye particles can still be trapped in the skeins and wash out in the water. To be safe and especially if you are combining the yarn with lighter colored yarn, give your yarn a good rinse in a warm bath without agitation for 30 minutes. This may take a couple of rinses. If for some reason this does not solve the problem, soak your yarn for 15 minutes and then steam your skein in a pot not used for food with a glug of vinegar for 30 minutes and let it cool. Don't agitate the yarn, even if it is superwash. This should fix the bleeding. If you still have issues, please reach out to me.
Crocking is when the dye rubs off the yarn and onto your skin. This happens with darker and more vivid colors, such as semi-solids. This does not mean the dye hasn't been set properly; it's just a reaction that the dye molecules have with the pH of the skin. You can read more about the science behind it here: https://dunkelgrun.com/fiber-science-1/. Unfortunately, there isn't anything I can do about crocking. Be sure to give your yarn and garment a rinse to remove any excess dye.
Wash your yarn or finished garments in cool water with a wool wash such as Soak. Do not use Woolite - it is too harsh for woolens. Lay flat to dry.
Winding services are available free of charge. Please indicate in the buyer notes that you would like your skein wound.
Yarns are available for wholesale, consignment, trunk shows, and custom orders. Please message me for any inquiries.
