About

We wear jewelry to express ourselves..........

.........and sometimes the expression just simply can not be found in department stores!

I have created "things" most of my life; paintings, candles, soaps, clothes, home decor, etc. etc. etc. But jewelry, ahhhh, jewelry, it has always held such a fascination for me. The reward that comes from focusing on bringing forth a small, wearable piece of art that speaks of who we are, right now in life, I cannot find any wear else. Taking raw materials, altering them, manipulating them, experimenting with them and then finding yourself with a tangible talisman that matches what you feel is from the dawn of ages, common ground between cultures and races.

The shop name comes from the fact that I take different medias and mix them together. I like to change direction as my life changes direction; a stay at home mom who embosses on scrapbook paper discovers that polymer clay can be embossed on also. A woman fascinated with history learns that antique and vintage found objects can be altered into stringable goods. A newly trained metal worker finds that a sculptor produces colors that adhere to metal. I am still young at heart and yet humble enough to know that at 40, I will continue to change, grow and develop new skills that translate into wearable art.
And it is an honor to be able to share that with like-minded souls across the globe!

This is a multi-streamed business that recognizes we are all at different stages in our jewelry journeys. The beginner bead stringer is welcome here, the experienced designer needing quality components for her own work, is welcome here, the trades woman who would like to add to her repertoire of skills is welcome here. No matter where we are at in the level of production, we are all bound by the same fascination and reward that creating wearable art gives us. This is why you see a distinct tribal feel to a lot of pieces offered in the shop; we are the handmade jewelry tribe. We mix materials, colors and textures for a sensory and emotional connection that is uniquely our own, reflective of our lives experience. Not just what you see in a magazine or on another woman, but what you are feeling right now in your life.

Thank you for letting me be part of yours.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read over our individual shop policies. We appreciate your business and support of handmade!

- We use our own stock photography taken in natural light, however some colors have slight variations, in addition to differences in computer monitors. Every effort to accurately describe our handmade items has been made to the best of our ability. Patinas are fascinating in their variegation's and the main reason we work with these solutions instead of paints is the difference in metal coverage. These subtle nuances are not always able to be described or captured accurately in text or photos. Please, ask if you need assistance in choosing items! We will do our best to assist you.

- All photographed earrings have been switched with my own set of hand forged ear wires, with the exclusion of the specialized shapes and one of a kind hoops. These have been cleaned with alcohol wipes after the photo shoots.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

- To care for your delicate clay and patina-ted items, wear them while on a luncheon, or shopping, a night out, etc. They are not meant to be worn daily, worn in water, while gardening, or during heavy hands-on activities. Treat them as fine china; to be protected in storage and while on display on your body! Avoid spraying perfumes, hair sprays, lotions, oils, hand sanitizers and so forth while wearing your art jewelry.
IF YOU ARE A JEWELRY DESIGNER WHO CREATES JEWELRY FROM PATINATED METALS, YOU MUST EDUCATE YOUR CUSTOMER ON THE SPECIALIZED NATURE OF THE JEWELRY THEY HAVE PURCHASED FROM YOU. Consider maintenance cards to display or enclose in packages that include the information offered above.

- A polishing clothe is all that is needed for metal items, with just oxidized or bright finishes. If you would like for us to tumble polish your metal only pieces, please inquire for the fee and shipping schedule.

- Do not use jewelry cleaners on your patina metal! Avoid any chemicals or sprays.

* It is of utmost importance that the findings you purchase from us are quality and last several years. I personally have invested many hours and dollars into finding the best, most secure way to seal and protect the patina-ted metal. I have found that it is similar to a new piece of leather in that when you first begin to work with it, it may flake a bit, around punched holes. But after the piece has been worked into a stable jewelry design and worn, there is no flaking or residue to contend with. I have worn several pieces against a white blouse and my own skin and found the patina-ted metal to be completely safe. This testing does not include those with sensitive skin or allergies. Please consider this when using the patina-ted findings and alert your customers accordingly. Usually those who are sensitive to base metals can enjoy the pieces sealed with lacquer and wax as this forms a protective barrier between the metal alloy that causes the reaction and the skin.

-To create with your patina-ted findings, wrap your chain nose pliers tips in a bit of masking tape to prevent marring the patina while using force to wire-wrap pieces together.

-The patina will need to be touched up if worn DAILY, as most jewelry needs repair and maintenance if it is worn daily. Please inquire for repair or touch up work and I will work with you until you have a good as new piece of jewelry again!

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS -
I am afraid I have lost so much money on missing international shipments that I had to make the difficult decision to no longer offer international shipping world wide.

I apologize for this inconvenience and please know it was not an easy decision to make. But as a small business that works to support my family, I can no longer cover lost packages out of pocket and it does not sit right with me to allow customers to lose money on a faulty postal system. Thank you for understanding.
Refunds and Exchanges
All sales are final.
With the exclusion of faulty or defective items, I do not accept returns or issue refunds.

If there is something wrong with your item, please contact me as soon as you receive it. I will immediately begin a replacement. If you do not want a replacement, please take a photo of the faulty item and include a description of what is wrong. I will send the return address at that time. I stand by my work and I do not want anyone stuck with an item that is not usable.

Defective items have been rare in the past 10 years I have been doing business online. I sincerely apologize for any mistakes like this and will do whatever I can to make it right.

The returned item must be securely packaged as you have received it; cushioned and enclosed in a bubble envelope. You will need to send it with a tracking number for both of our protection; yours so you can see I have received it and mine so I can see you have sent it.

Please consider insurance for your package to cover potential loss or damage in shipping. The United States Postal Service is a completely separate service that I use on your behalf. I fulfill my obligations by creating and accurately describing the item I have posted for sale then making sure it is safely packaged for rough shipping procedures within a reasonable amount of time. Once I hand the package to the post office, I am not involved in any more of the process.

Your package is shipped to the address you have on file with Etsy. You receive an email notification that contains a tracking number and you can also access this tracking number from your etsy account through the Purchases and Reviews link by clicking on the title of the order from this shop.
Additional policies and FAQs
- Wholesale orders and discounts -
I design jewelry based on what I like to wear. I create components and sort beads for others to do the same.
Each listed price is for you the jewelry designer to purchase, design, assemble and resell jewelry with profit. They are not cheap pot metal mass produced components for world wide distribution. They are exclusive and rare and handmade and not available elsewhere. This is YOUR selling point.

It does not get easier to create large orders of hand forged items, it becomes more difficult and causes pain in my hands and shoulders, ugh and now in my elbows as I deal with the onset of arthritis. Large orders also take away from daily orders that support my family and it is for these reasons I no longer give discounts on large quantities of forged items. You will however receive the highest quality of metal components that you will enjoy designing with and earning money from. Thank you for understanding the difference between our items and those of a retail bead store.

- Mass produced V. Hand made -
We research, purchase raw materials, design, create from years of experience, photograph, edit, measure, list, market, promote and oversee shipping of each item you see in our store. It takes time and concentration to do all this at the level of business that we are currently involved in and we need your patience in performing these aspects of the business. We are grateful for the opportunity to sell our work and appreciate your understanding.
Thank you for supporting handmade and independent designers!
Much Respect,
Shannon German
