Very cute little book (a little smaller than I imagined). I love the quality of craftsmanship (very well made), the quality of paper used (from the flower design to the white finely textured white pages inside), the easy to use dividers and the generous number of pages. And also a little customization for me. I would definitely recommend Judy's books.

I have a black thumb, but I love flowers. Read the story behind my flowers here, both the paper-crafted ones and the crocheted ones: http://www.judy-nolan.com/2016/07/23/the-story-behind-my-flowers/

About

Details from cover to cover

Who is Mister PenQuin? Once upon a time, my husband was a Naval weapons officer on a guided missile cruiser off the coast of Japan, while I was a new wife getting used to life on the West coast after growing up in the Midwest. Miles of ocean separated us during a time before e-mail or text messages existed. What kept our relationship strong was a steady exchange of handwritten letters. My husband's letters were always signed with a doodle of a penguin wearing a top hat. His name? You guessed it: Mister PenQuin. When I decided to open a shop for handmade books, journals and notepads, it was inevitable that Mister PenQuin's name was chosen, for he represents communication, all wrapped up in a package of romance, nostalgia and steadfastness, the same feelings I hope my handmade books, journals and clipboards evoke as you browse through my shop.

I made my first book, a navy blue construction paper-covered book with hand-sewn pages, when I was in grade school. Little did I know that one day I would become a bookmaker, combining my love for paper, stitching, fabric, fiber, buttons and ribbon all in one product, not always at the same time. Those who love the written word invariably form an attachment to books, journals and clipboards. For me, bookmaking is simply a natural outcome of my own lifetime of reading and writing. Many years ago as a college student, I majored in English and communication, with an emphasis in professional writing that eventually led to the publication of my poetry. Poetry creates visual images, which beg for a blank page to illustrate them. Whether you write, draw, paint, jot down notes, doodle, or simply like to keep track of things, there's something very satisfying about doing so by hand instead of digitally. I must admit, however, that I like my electronic gadgets, too!

My books are made by hand with papers or fabrics for the cover that appeal to me. Perhaps because I have a black thumb and can't grow flowers to save myself, I often embellish my book or journal covers with handmade flowers. Many of my books have chipboard covers and are spiral bound, some have covers that are crocheted by me and felted from wool, and other covers are made from a combination of fabric and stabilizers.

When you look at my books, what will strike you is the attention to detail. You'll see acid-free pages with rounded corners, and covers made with heavyweight chipboard. Inside pages are cut by hand and always include decorative end papers. Books and journals with felted covers included a hand-crocheted wrap cord, embellished with beads and/or charms. Fabric journals have hand-stitched pages and include journaling tags.

Some of my books are playful, encouraging interactivity. There's the Creative Ideas Accordion Notebook, for example, that has sections that flip-flop like a Jacob's ladder toy. The Love We Share Pocket Envelope Journal consists of envelope pages with journaling tags inside them that celebrate the memories, interests and shared experiences with your partner. Recipe Card Books includes page protectors and recipe cards for a new bride or a holiday cookie swap. Mini Photo Books feature 14 pages that are formed from a series of accordion-type folds and multiple cuts from a single sheet of card stock.

Mister PenQuin includes a variety of mini books, journals and clipboards that I hope will meet most folks' needs. If you don't see what you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact me so I can design a book that fits your special needs.

MisterPenQuin will soon have a sister shop on Etsy, the result of my having more bookmaking ideas than there are available sections in any single Etsy shop. You'll find handmade specialty books, journal covers and memory keepers--mostly with fabric or fiber covers--in MisterPenQuinToo, http://misterpenquintoo.etsy.com.

Other shops on Etsy where I sell include:
- JNOriginals, http://jnoriginals.etsy.com - Classic crocheted and felted women’s accessories
- 2ndChanceTreasures, http://2ndchancetreasures.etsy.com - Recycled supplies for crafts & stitching
