Get ready for the holidays! We highly recommend placing your orders as soon as possible in order to receive in time for Christmas. **Please note that we will be away November 9-18th.**
We highly recommend ordering prior to November 1st if possible. If your order is placed after November 1, your order may not ship until the end of November unless it is a pre-made (not custom) item.
This year the cut-off for hand-embroidered stockings will be November 18th in order to catch-up on orders placed while we are away. (exception being local Vancouver or Sea-to-Sky orders).
SEA TO SKY and VANCOUVER residents who want to pick up from Squamish or arrange personal delivery, enter code LOCALPICKUP to waive the shipping fee.
US residents will still receive tracking via USPS First Class Shipping. Insurance included on orders of 3+ items.

the name mitani is an homage to my japanese-canadian grandmother, amy mitani.
mitani started as many small businesses do. as a new mom, i decided that working from home is in the best interest of my family. with years of schooling + experience as a designer of children's rooms behind me, i let my passion for fabric lead me to create my own line. the majority of my work is sketched, cut, sewn and embroidered by myself but i also have a little help from some talented friends!
mitani is everything i love: modern & whimsical designs, the softest certified organic + naturally-dyed fabrics, and the ability to customize to have something special made for each of my customers.
mitani's business values focus on supporting local + small businesses first by purchasing my materials close-to-home and outsourcing only when necessary. this ensures the lowest-possible carbon footprint and helps small business owners, like myself, be able to provide for themselves, their families, and their communities. my products may not be the least-expensive of their kind, but i like to feel there is value in providing a high-quality item, sustainable materials free of toxins, and small, local manufacturing.
i find inspiration in day-to-day life, in my japanese heritage, in my mountain-town, in fashion and in my little girl.

Shop policies
All items are made with love and attention to detail in beautiful Squamish BC. I hope you enjoy receiving your purchase as much as I enjoyed designing it.
Your item will be shipped to you wrapped simply and with care with either a recycled cardstock sleeve or craft paper depending on the size of the item. I don't like to use extra boxes, tissue or bags if you don't need them (i am an eco-aware business!) BUT if your item is a gift, or if you would like me to send it directly to the recipient, please let me know. I'll be sure to make it especially pretty for you in it's own box and with a gift tag and your message written on it.
If you have any special requests (such as a specific colour, theme or if you need something URGENTLY), please convo me.

Returns and exchanges

I don't accept cancellations
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
- Custom or personalized orders
- Perishable products (like food or flowers)
- Digital downloads
- Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
- Items on sale
Returns and exchange details
Refunds or credits for exchange will be allowed within 7 days of receiving your order (for non-custom orders only). Item must be returned to me within 14 days of requesting the return. **Original shipping cost is non-refundable.**
Refunds or credit for exchange will be given once the original item has been returned to me in it's original and sellable condition (note that on top of appearance, i WILL smell it too, so please don't allow cigarettes or pets to odour-it-up).
Items that have been washed are non-refundable. Please follow care instructions closely.
UNLESS in the case of a - gasp! - defective product, the cost of return is the responsibility of the the customer and original shipping fees are non-refundable (only the cost of the item).
Finally, if there is any damage during shipping, please report it to me immediately so I can resolve it. If a package has been broken, opened and the item has been affected, please email me a photo so that i can claim it with the shipper.
For loss by the shipping company, a refund or exchange will be issued once it has been verified by the shipper that it has been lost.
Payment
For custom fabric combos, embroidery and personalization, cancellation is accepted no later than 48hours from time of purchase.
Cancellation of all other non-custom orders is not accepted after the item has shipped, at this point you may request a return. See "refund policy" for details. If your item has not yet shipped, you may cancel your purchase and you will be refunded in full.
Shipping
To the US, First Class Shipping is via USPS and includes tracking.
Estimated delivery times within Canada are 2-20 business days depending on your location.
Estimated delivery times to the US are 3-10 business days depending on your location and US customs clearance time.
We are not responsible for delays due to Customs processing or weather (or COVID).
If you would like your order shipped with a request for signature, expedited or tracked delivery, please let me know and we can work it out (additional costs may be applied).
**IMPORTANT FOR US and INTERNATIONAL ORDERS** Additional customs, duties and taxes may be due upon delivery for orders shipped outside of Canada. These charges are the responsibility of the receiver and Mitani Designs does not include these charges in the overall cost of the order. These charges are also non-refundable on returned items.
