Announcement   Welcome from Yorkshire where at Staithes Studios I make original mono prints and keepsake books direct from nature. http://staithesstudios.com/stef-mitchell/

My work explores an ongoing relationship with the landscape. - exploring walking through the landscape on foot, recording walks, field edges and the effects of weather patterns on plant growth through printmaking and painting

Monoprints are made using plant material directly. The plant ink and paper having equal say in the process. Each piece is a unique one off.

Everyday natural inspirations are realised as paintings - abstracted using motifs and colour that originate from the landscape around me.

With a focus is on process, material and spatial elements I aim to examine how attention can drawn be to the materiality of paint or ink whilst at the same time engaging the viewer with spatial depth.

I have degrees in Creative and Performing Arts and Fine Art and studied at postgraduate level at Goldsmiths. I exhibit widely and run print making workshops from my studio and directly in the landscape.

I have exhibited prints and paintings nationally and internationally. My prints were exhibited as feature printmaker at The Craft Centre and Design Gallery at Leeds and I have had work included Liverpool Biennale. In 2014 and 2015 I was shortlisted for the Flourish Award for excellence in printmaking. In 2015 I was one of 10 UK based printmakers selected to take part in Connections North: Mirror Images an International Print Exhibition with simultaneous exhibitions in North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Scotland, Finland and Sweden.

About

Original prints, keepsakes and courses made and delivered with a mix of nature and the artists hand in Yorkshire

Hello - welome from Yorkshire where in my seaside studio at Staithes I work as an artist, curator and educator.

Specialising in printmaking I make a range of hand made prints and keepsake books printing directly from the natural landscape that surrounds me. Each piece I produce is totally unique, a rare an original treasure and a little bit of Yorkshire printed to last into the future. My work has been exhibited and sold widely throughout the UK and in Europe and is stocked in galleries and shops within Yorkshire.

After making a little book from my friends wedding bouquet and from the plants from another friends garden I started making keepsake books - a way of making a very unique record of a special occasion in a very personal way.

Along with my husband Ian, we run Staithes Studios Gallery which we curate to reflect a passion for the natural, organic and abstract, offering a hand picked range of contemporary fine art, applied craft, art materials and workshops. We can be us at the top of the slip way on the edge of the sea.
