Handmade in the City by the Bay

Hello! I love making detailed functional ware and sculpture using an ancient technique called sgraffito. The term originated from the Italian word "graffiare," which means "to scratch, mark or write" and is defined as "a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color."

I use a tiny loop tool to scratch away the painted surface to reveal the clay body underneath. I love the highly detailed and methodical nature of working this way. Each piece takes approximately 3-4 hours to create from start to finish.

My subject matter is inspired by the plants, animals, and landscapes of Northern California and the gorgeous Pacific ocean. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do making it!
