My talisman jewelry is all about connection to the land...the energy within the mountains, lakes/rivers and forests. I believe we need this connection in our increasingly artificial lives, a link to the timeless deeper reality of stone, light, tree, earth, water. There is a beauty and a healing power in the serenity of the forest...be still and listen. I consciously source unusual beads and rare objects to incorporate into my designs. This combination of metaphysical gemstones, fine metals and recycled antique devotional symbols merge a balance between tradition and creativity.
My journey as a jewelry artist began many years ago and has evolved over time. Influences from nature are used to make my own components for my designs in various mediums. Gemstone beads, metal work, copper etching, clay, lampworking (making glass beads), wire working, seed bead work all join together to make the whole. When creating a piece I gather pieces and I will begin to see the materials that will work for this creation, the process, and the shape the piece will take. This is usually vague, more feeling than form: I don't make drawings or plan things out. The materials themselves also speak to me. The gemstones energy and the feelings I get from colors, size and textures, petrified wood bead's echoes, the warmth of copper/ silver components molded to the project.

I have always felt a connection to the earth and nature. My bond to nature began in upstate New York with it’s rich green and soft brown woodlands, peaceful gentle streams and rocky bottom glacier-made lakes.

I roamed in the green places behind the house where I grew up collecting rocks, stones, special sticks, found feathers and enjoyed the serenity of the day.
I loved the crystal clear water that bubbled gently over the stream bed as the light played on the surface...the rustling of the trees overhead as the wind played in their branches, bird calls in the distance.
It mesmerized me, lulled me with mother earth's soft voice, to a place of peace and rest. It was sacred ground. Gemstones echo and carry the earth's energy and spirituality and and bring it to us.

When creating a piece I gather components and I will begin to see the materials that will work for my inspiration, the process, and the shape the piece will take. This is usually vague, more feeling than form. I don't make drawings or plan things out other than gathering colors, textures and sizes of components.
The aesthetic of my work is organic, earthy in texture and color. I let go of control rather than try to impose my ideas on things. Because of this I focus on simple, natural supplies: gemstones, silk and linen thread, natural leather cord, copper/silver/gold wire and components. The materials themselves also speak to me. The gemstones' energy emitted and the feelings/impressions I get from colors and textures, petrified wood bead echoes, the warmth of patinaed copper or the glow of sterling silver components molded for the project.

My jewelry pieces feature unusual stones, materials or ethnographic talismans and are completely handcrafted. While I work I am in a meditative, quiet space, infusing each talisman with beneficial energies and my prayers and blessings for you...the unseen energy at the heart of each piece is the true center of my work

The art of creating jewelry is often a delicate and subtle process, one in which the slightest alteration in a color, surface, or shape can change the appearance and feel of a piece entirely.
I find that it is a matter of "deep listening" to the materials before me as they guide me into creating forms that evoke the most ephemeral and furtive impressions of the earth's energy.

My intention is for your talisman to channel the highest and most uplifting spiritual energy available to you: for comfort, self-love, peace, forgiveness, letting go, personal growth, positive energy, compassion, self-awareness, etc.
I want you to feel good wearing it and want it to be a source of beautiful energy in your life.

When working with metal I use hand tools like hammers and pliers. Other tools I work with are a Dremel for drilling, cutting, grinding, a torch for soldering and metal enameling, and an electric kiln for firing metal clay, ceramics and glass beads I make.

Each glass lampwork bead is individually handcrafted one at a time. They take patience and skill. As a lampwork artist I put thought, craft, skill, love and pride in my work.
This is my goal for every component and piece of jewelry I design.

PLEASE NOTE: My creative process is deeply intuitive and as a result, I do not accept commission work.
I've received many inquiries about this, but try as I might, I have found that the creative energy just doesn't flow for me in that way.
Also, pieces cannot be altered or sized unless I've stated otherwise in the listing.

CARE & REPAIR
I care deeply about the quality of my work and want you to be very happy with it. I wear what I make to ensure that it is comfortable and sits well. Although I often use unconventional materials and techniques, I do everything I can to make the talismans as solidly as possible. Should a piece break in the course of everyday wear, I will do my best to repair it free of charge...but do be aware that many components are unique and irreplaceable.

SIZING & ALTERATIONS
Most necklaces and bracelets cannot be re-sized but ask if you want a chain resized. All of my pieces are made with a certain sense of balance and proportion between the elements which would be destroyed if the piece were altered. Because of this I have chosen not to do alterations.
I will change ear wires if you purchase the add on for sterling silver or rose gold ear wires.

ECO-FRIENDLY
I try to run a green business. I try to be mindful and respectful of my materials and equipment, and produce as little waste and use as few toxic materials as possible. Most of my work is done with simple hand tools. I recycle all metals and re purpose everything I can.

....If you have any questions at all, please let me know!

Thanks,
Patti

My Joy

My journey as a jewelry artist began over 20 years ago and has evolved over time. I use many mediums that I love to combine to make a finished piece. Influences from Nature are used to make my own components for my designs in: glass, polymer clay, precious metal clay (PMC), as well as ceramic and etched metals. Found objects, talismans from afar, metal work, my lampwork beads, wire working, seed bead work all join together to make the whole.

My love of nature began in upstate New York with it’s rich green and soft brown woodlands, peaceful gentle streams and crisp, rocky bottom glacier-made lakes. I roamed in the green places behind the house where I grew up collecting rocks, stones, special sticks, found feathers: bits and pieces that spoke to me. The rustling of the trees overhead as the wind played in their branches, bird calls in the distance. It mesmerized me, lulled me with earth's soft voice, to a place of peace. The greens and browns of the soft mossy places called to me: it's where I found life, serenity, spirit. The form of all living things is spirit. We interact on a spirit level with all of nature.
When creating a piece I gather components and I will begin to see the materials that will work for my inspiration, the process, and the shape the piece will take. This is usually vague, more feeling than form, and I never make drawings or plan things out other than gathering colors, textures and sizes of components.
The materials themselves also speak to me. The gemstone's energy emitted and the feelings I get from colors and textures, gemstone's energy, the warmth of copper/patinaed silver components molded to the project. The art of creating jewelry is often a delicate and subtle process, one in which the slightest alteration in a color, surface, or form can change the appearance of a piece entirely. I find that it has become a matter of listening to the materials before me as they guide me into creating forms that evoke the most ephemeral and elusive impressions of the earthen landscape.
