Announcement   Creativity is a conversation taking place between the artist and medium. As a hand builder, I enjoy using a process for coiling I call "Rough Coils." Predominantly using a verdigris glaze, I work with clay while striving to express the clay's own personality. I like to include the lumps, bumps and imperfections while sending my emotional memories throughout. I find that this approach allows the clay to be my muse. Some of my coil work includes "braids," where I recall my grandmother's gentle hands braiding my hair.

I love it! I just received it - and it shipped across the country well. The plaque will go nicely by my gyotaku art of an octopus. nThank you for send it so quickly!

About

MaryJane Ceramic Artist

A passion to express has led me to many creative projects throughout the years. I've now rediscovered clay after having played with photography, theatre, music, dance, costume design, acting for stage and screen and life modeling.
I experience creativity as a dialogue between medium and artist. My conversations with clay encourage imperfections into form and function. I like to dig into the meat of the moment by using a gritty clay for making slabs and "rough coils". Textures and the essence of trees and the flow of underwater life emerge into my forms.
Much of my work uses my own version of a copper/verdigris glaze as well as other glazes that accentuate the lumps, bumps and imperfections of the finished surface.
