Announcement    I am no longer accepting custom order requests. My full-time work currently requires overtime hours. I cannot dedicate the time and attention needed to successfully meet the kinds of deadlines that custom work requires. Once my working hours return to a standard 40 per week instead of 60 or 70, I will begin accepting custom orders again. Thank you for your patience.

I shape, forge, twist, bend and weave discreet day collars, cuffs, and anklets. While fine jewelry designed for the BDSM community remain my primary focus, I also make a wide variety of other unique adornments for your wrists, neck, fingers, toes, and ears.

My handmade one-of-a-kind jewelry goes directly from me to you. Therefore I set my pricing at wholesale rates, there's no retailer adding another 300% markup. Further I constantly seek ways to minimize environmental impact by reducing waste, reusing and recycling metals as well as packing/shipping materials. One of the ways I do this is by buying materials from other business owners who share my commitment to environmental care.

Ready-made items ship within 1-5 business days. Allow an additional week for shipping to US addresses and an additional 3-4 weeks to international destinations. All international customs fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Made to Size and Made to Order pieces take longer. Read below for more info.

The Birth of Mockingbird Lane Wire

I have been a maker of things for as long as I can remember. As a young child, I designed clothing and accessories for Barbie, Ken and Skipper. My fascination with creating took me from sewing, to decoupage, to ceramics, to throwing my own pots, to weaving, through years of crocheting, a few disastrous experiments with knitting, and a couple of decades of black and white figure study photography. It was in 2006 that I encountered wire as a medium, and found joy. Working with precious metal wire simultaneously excites my imagination and serves as a calming meditation.

While making art is my passion, I always felt it was something of an indulgence, and pursued other pathways deemed by my social circles as responsible adult careers. First in the retail industry, then in garment manufacturing, then in the US Navy as a Chinese Linguist, and after that by attending University which led to a professional career as an Educator. I'm still in the field of education today, but spend my off-hours designing and making jewelry.

My story in founding this shop is not unlike thousands of others. People kept telling me I should sell my work. And once I ran out of friends and acquaintances who needed any more jewelry, I struggled with finding venues for selling my work. It was only when a friend suggested I look into ETSY that I had an AHA! moment. So in August 2008, I took the plunge.

Since that time, while maintaining my full-time career, working to restore a 135yr old Victorian home, and manage a household that includes my best friend and 5 cats (2 of which are blind), I've been running Mockingbird Lane Wire online.

My process is pretty organic most of the time, in that I don't precisely plan out a new piece so much as I let the wire and the gemstones I'm using tell me what they wish to become.

I use Copper, Sterling Silver, Argentium, Fine Silver, and 14kt gold-filled wire. To add to the richness of my pieces and to provide bold splashes of color, I also use various precious gems and gemstone quality stones. And last but not least, whenever possible I reuse, recycle, and up-cycle found objects, vintage jewelry elements, and odd bits here and there.

Shop members

  • Lady Mockingbird AKA Diana

    Owner

Born in the middle 1960s, I went through an amazing number of different career paths before finally finding both my muse and my niche. I'm a woman-of-all-trades running a single person micro-business.

  • Justice

    Chief Snuggler

Justice's role is to make certain I take regular snuggle breaks. This blind fur child is the chief nudge here in the studio.

  • Faith

    Circle Walker Extraordinaire

Faith ensures that there are always dust elephants rolling like tumbleweeds throughout the entire house. But this blind girl's chief claims to fame are the way she paces out interminable cat sized circles when she's not engaged in playing fetch.

  • Grey

    Paper Shredder

Grey, a solid and stolid character keeps busy in the studio by shredding any crinkly paper which makes it's way to the waste basket. Thus ensuring I'll not have to purchase a mechanical shredder for 'sensitive' documents.
