On Etsy since 2011

Modern Folk Embroidery makes original, contemporary cross-stitch designs inspired by centuries of embroidery for your home.

A few years ago I wanted to make a little embroidery piece, but quickly found that none of the patterns out there reflected what I was looking for. As I didn't want to simply copy an old design, I decided that I'd have to take the jump and try my hand at designing my own patterns.

I created a few pieces, and people liked them. I set up an Etsy shop as it seemed the perfect place for my work. I decided on the name "Modern Folk" as it's made for modern people, but it is also my personal take on folkloristic patterns.

One of the best things about having the shop is being able to share something I really care about with so many people all over the world. I am always very moved by people sending me pictures of their handiwork. It's so great to see a design that I created being made by someone on the other side of the world! (so do send me your photos of your finished work please!)

Make sure to also check out my personal website ( where you can find my hand-dyed embroidery wool (using only natural dyes), and high quality linens).

Future plans include the idea of bundling some patterns into book form. But for now, that's future music!

Welcome to my shop Modern Folk! A few years ago I started Modern Folk from a desire to create something unique but with a folklore feeling to it. As I found it hard to come by any patterns that matched my taste, I decided to make my own - and Modern Folk was born! You can read a little more about me and Modern Folk in my About page:

Returns and exchanges
Unless there is an actual problem / error with the file, refunds are not given on digital downloads as they cannot be returned to me. However, I want you to be happy with your pattern, so if there are any issues don't hesitate to contact me and I will try and sort it out as soon as possible.

Might you receive a physical item that is damaged or that you feel wasn't as described, get in touch with me and I can see what I can do for you. If I can't replace the product, a refund will be issued on return of the item.
I accept payments through PayPal - these are cleared immediately, which means that your downloads will be available instantly! You can also pay with all credit and debit cards through the Direct Checkout system on Etsy, so a PayPal account is not required.
All patterns (with the exception of special commissions) are available as instant downloads. After your PayPal payment comes through, you will be able to instantly download your patterns. If there are any issues with your downloads, let me know and I will email them to you personally, as fast as I can. This is normally within a 24 hour timeframe.

Delivery of commissions takes longer as I have to design the pattern. When it is a simple alteration of an existing pattern it shouldn't take too long, but please allow up to 48 hours for those.

Purchases of physical items are shipped as soon as possible, usually on the day of purchase, or the first working day.
Additional policies and FAQs
I'm always interested in exiting commissions, so don't hesitate to get in touch with regards to those.
