DRINK ON & HOBBY ON

Modern Hobbyist began as an creative outlet for “Wine Fairy”, knitter, and hobby enthusiast, Celine DeMaesschalck. Since December of 2016, Celine has been selling custom paintings, prints, and knittwear at retail locations, online, and during pop-up events. To see a current list of display locations, please check her website: Modern-Hobbyist.com

She is the product of two artistic people that come from creative families that encouraged them to have hobbies; something that was more common before the digital age. They provided supplies and guides throughout Celine’s early years as she switched from one hobby to the next – for this, she is very grateful, as she would not have developed this niche within the visual art market.

Today, she specializes in watercolor paintings of wine regions around the world and creating mixed media maps on wood panels. The idea for this came about while searching for maps that were educational but attractive enough to display for friends and other non-industry folk. She made her first map using acrylic paint while creating a presentation on Spanish wines – needless to say, acrylics were not the right medium….. Soon after, she found how fun working with watercolors could be in this context. It is a medium that is not very forgiving; a perfectionists daydream and nightmare.

You can catch her hosting (and attending!) tastings in Charlotte, running the Greenway, or visiting her family in Massachusetts.
