Who: Kelly has a small staff of Junies, from time to time. These contract seamstresses help her make all of the goods sold here on Etsy when things to get too big for her to handle.

When: Founded in 2006 by Kelly McCants.

Where: Modern June Head Quarters is now located in a small one room studio space in Richmond, VA, before then Modern June was run from home. While the bulk of our wares are made at MJHQ some are made in the homes of the staff in Virginia and Ohio.

Why: Kelly McCants created Modern June in 2006 when she found a need for easy to care for housewares in her own busy life. She combines her retro style with practical fabrics like oilcloth, laminated cotton and chalk cloth to give every home a fun and welcoming feeling.

Kelly is the author of Sewing with Oilcloth (2010) and At Home with Modern June (April, 2014). She learned to sew at thirteen years old and is devoted to stitching and pattern making. Kelly McCants lives in Virginia in a lovely old home with her husband and her two teenagers. She loves all things kitsch and enjoys junkin’ when she can get away from the studio!
