Modern Matters loves finding midcentury marvelous wares for your modern world.
It all started when I had to have that 1940's celluloid handled, intricately beaded bag from the thrift shop. From there I began designing dresses for my paper dolls on leftover paper from my mom's office, taking art and design classes through school, then working in design, wholesale and retail jobs while free-lancing on the side.
Fast-forward through years of collecting and eventually running short on space to contain all those objects of my desire. I could keep collecting, but only if I started sharing with others, which brought me to selling at markets and online: first ebay, then etsy.
So, now I still love buying great vintage pieces, but I also enjoy it when you buy my great vintage pieces. Selfish of me, I know, but it doubles my pleasure when I find another incredible printed Sixties sheath or Forties geo bowtie that I can pass on to a fellow vintage-lover... if I can bear to let it go. BTW, I still have that beaded bag.

We're serial shoppers (not kidding) and we're constantly acquiring amazing clothing and accessories pulled from our favorite decades: the Fifties through the Eighties. Cameo appearances are also made by other eras, but we keep coming back to the center of the 20th Century for the most interesting designs, patterns and color combinations.

Returns and exchange details
If you have any doubt about an item working for you or as a gift, please email your concerns before placing orders. Items that do not meet with your satisfaction may be exchanged for other items or store credit good for one year from original purchase date.
Vintage items come with a history from their previous owners. Their 20+ years of life often show signs of wear, which we do our best to point out through photos and descriptions.
