About

How I started and still continue with making doll hair from my Angora goats.

Here is a link to some of the colors I have done and some of the natural mohair I have and a link to the many dolls that have my mohair on them.

My story:
I first started using mohair for restoring vintage Troll dolls in 2004. A few times I had some left over that I couldn't use so I put it up for sale on ebay. All of it sold right away. I was so surprised! I sold more as it went that I couldn't use. Just little lots of different natural colors. It all sold! I started getting contacted by reborn baby artists inquiring about buying more from me. I even started selling to people from other countries. Oh my gosh! This was too kool! So I found some more bulk unwashed Angora mohair to buy. I asked the sellers how to wash it and also got information on processing from mohairwig.com site. I asked her if she minded if I started selling it too. Of course, as nice as she is, she said "of course not" and wished me good luck. I even bought quite a bit of mohair from her and some acid dyes. Well, this is how I got started selling Angora mohair. Almost all of the Angora mohair I sell is from my own Angora goats. I process it all myself from shearing the goats to the finished product. It's all very time consuming but the end result is well worth it!
In October of 2007, I decided since I had so many inquiries and was building my customer base, that I would go ahead and by a couple goats. So I bought my first 2 Angora goats which was a young buck "Torch" and my little doe "Isabelle" (I call her Izzy for short). Both are from high quality Champion bloodlines. I purchased them from Sharon Chesttnutt of Cloudspun Angora's. I had my first kid from then in the Spring of 2008. Oh my gosh what fun this little girl was! Well, then I got so many more inquiries about natural colors of mohair and started getting inquiries for longer fantasy colors of doll hair, I bought a couple more does and a couple wether's and a couple more bucks along the way. I've also had several babies from the various couples. I now have my little herd built up to 24. I have sold a few along the way to help a couple other people who wanted to have fiber for spinning. I now have just about every natural color available. I've done very selective breeding for the colors and the lock structure and also for the softness. I pretty much have it all now. So I specialize in the natural colors. I also have just about every length anyone could want. I do specialize in the longer lengths, but do occasionally have shorter lengths.
I used to sell mostly on ebay but then found etsy. This has been a nice change. Especially since it's just for handcrafted items and for supplies. My mohair is considered a supply.
I started getting lots of inquiries for the fantasy colors and started taking custom orders for doll hair. My business has grown more than I ever thought possible! My husband now helps me since he has been laid off from work for 3 yrs. now and has since retired.
As I received so many inquiries for the fantasy colors, I started experimenting on different mixed color blends. Now I'm having fun! After I did that for awhile I wanted to start doing something a little different with the colors. So I started experimenting on the rainbow and ombre blends from top to bottom of the locks. These started selling like hotcakes! I started something new! I was so proud to be the original designer of a new color design for my mohair! Now of course there's copies that other people have done and are doing, but I know I am the one that started the trend. It took alot of work and experimenting to get these colors and still does. I did alot of searching to make sure no one else was doing them before I started. I didn't want to copy anyone. No one was, so I took the plunge.
I'm not a real artsy craftsy person so I love seeing my mohair on these dolls. People have used it for trolls, doll restoration, Blythe, Barbies, horses, animal sculpts, and many other types of dolls.
My first love when I was very young is was always animals. I got my love of animals from my Mother. I always wanted to be a Veterinarian from the time I was about 6 yrs. old. I had dogs, cats (any stray that walked by), horses, guinea pigs, rats, gerbels. I started training my horse when I was about 6 yrs. old and continued training and breeding horses until I was about 23 yrs. old. Then life happened and I quit only owning a few of my own. I used to love drawing horses and animals and have always loved photography.
Now all I have is 21 goats, 2 dogs and 2 cats. They are all my family and are loved so much. Unfortunately, one of my sweetest goats "Charlie" passed away last April and i have since sold a few goats because I ended up with too many of the same color. So the new owner will have a variety of her own.
I'll keep doing doll hair for as long my body lets me.

Welcome! Thanks for your consideration.
I've been working with mohair since 2004.. I am totally addicted to this very unique, wonderful hair! I got started by using it for restoring vintage troll dolls. I don't spin, I rarely knit or crochet, so I continued to work with this beautiful hair by preparing it for other crafty artists. I sell to alot of reborn baby artists and Blythe doll artists in which many are always back for more of my mohair. I sell all over the world.
My mohair has been used for many projects such as reborn babies, fairies, Blythe dolls, horses, troll dolls, needle felted animals, wigs, fairies, Barbies and Santas.
I always completely wash and sanitize my mohair at least 3 times. It is conditioned and completely combed out and ready for you to use. If I sell any hair that is not combed, I will specify.
