Sea Glass

+ What your piece includes
Each piece comes framed in a white, shadow box either 5x7 or 8x10 ready to be hung on a wall or sit on a shelf. The sea glass used in your piece of original art is from the shores of New England, hand found by myself, my husband, my mother, or my extended family while enjoying all our beaches have to offer year round. Each piece of sea glass is authentic and untouched by anything but the ocean.

+ Commissions
Yes, I do custom pieces! Please message me with what you are looking for as well as any specific sea glass colors you would like. While I do my best to honor your requests, some sea glass colors are extremely rare and are unavailable. Please see list below, I generally have colors listed in common, and some uncommon.

+ What is sea glass?
Simply put, sea glass is glass that has been weathered and conditioned in the ocean. The process of tumbling at the oceans floor by currents and then washed back and forth across rocky shores to produce soft, rounded and frosty sea glass gems can take up to 20-100 years. There is so much history behind each piece, and finding both perfect pieces and rare colors are the thrill of each sea shore hunt. There are more than 80 different shades of glass to find, some being harder to find than others.

+ Color Rarity Guide
Common: kelly green, brown, and white
Uncommon: soft green, soft blue, forest green, lime green, amber, and jade
Rare: pink, aqua, cornflower blue, cobalt blue, opaque white, citron, and purple.
Extremely Rare: orange, red, turquoise, yellow, black, teal, and gray
(LaMotte, Pure Sea Glass 2004).

Hand Painted Reclaimed Wood

When my mother retired from teaching art after 35 years, I put her to work creating unique pieces that use driftwood found along the shores of New England while out searching for sea glass. When driftwood is scarce we use reclaimed wood and wood scraps from a local wood mill to create unique pieces that are sustainable and environmentally friendly! [reuse and recycle is a mantra here!]

+ What your piece includes
Each piece is hand painted by my mom on reclaimed wood or driftwood. Most pieces also include brass hangers on the back for easy hanging in your home.

+ Commissions
Yes, we do create some custom pieces depending on availability of wood. Please let us know what you are looking for and we will let you know how long and if we are able to create it for you.

+ What is reclaimed and driftwood?
Reclaimed wood is generally from old barns and warehouses that is repurposed. Additionally reclaimed wood can come from old wine barrels, factories, or train cars. Most driftwood is created when trees, are washed into the ocean due to flooding, high winds, or other natural occurrences. It is them tumbled in the ocean, much like sea glass, by winds, tides and waves and is washed ashore. Driftwood, or drift lumber, is also a result of man made wooden objects such as docks or buildings are washed into sea due to storms.
