Frequently asked questions
Do you charge sales tax?
Yes, Sales Tax is charged on orders shipping within Illinois as well as any US State requiring such for internet commerce, at the current specified Department of Revenue rate. This rate is subject to change at any time and without advance notice from me. The cart will calculate this charge where applicable.
Should I prewash my new fabric?
My personal rule of thumb is YES, wash every fabric you receive before cutting. This is especially important for any project you wish to wash later. Pre-washing does a number of important things.
Pre-shrinkage is the biggest for me. Nearly all fabrics are going to shrink by some degree when washed. If you don't get the first major shrinkage out of the way before cutting and sewing, you run the risk of awkward and uneven shrinking of the individual pieces once they are sewn to your final product.
Pre-washing also helps remove the "sizing" (additive to give new fabric that crisp feel) and any other chemicals left from the manufacturing process, as well as any dirt or grime collected while in the factory & warehouses before they reach you.
When will my order ship?
I strive to get your package on it's way to you as quickly as possible. My normal turnaround time for In-Stock items is within 3 business days, Monday-Friday. I do not ship on weekends so please consider this in your schedule. There are times when new collections have just arrived or my workload requires a stretch of my processing time. I do my best to provide accurate details for you in the Shipping section of listings.
I also offer PreOrder items which are NOT available for immediate shipping. I cannot guarantee an exact shipping date on these items, as I must rely on the manufacturer's schedule of release- any preorder dates given are estimates only.
What is a PreOrder?
PreOrder items in my shop are items that I do not yet have in hand. I often offer new fabric collections prior to manufacturer release to allow my customers to be the first to receive these new fabrics upon arrival to me.
PreOrders are NOT recommended for time-sensitive projects. I cannot guarantee a receipt or shipping date. All dates provided are estimates ONLY, until the fabric is in hand.
Please do not offer these items to your own customers before they're listed in-stock in my shop, as I do not process order cancellations due to manufacturer delays. Once ordered, your requested yardage is set aside specifically for you, and your order will be processed promptly upon receipt to me. If you have additional questions, please ask!
Something is wrong with my order, what do I do?
If upon receipt, you find a significant issue* with your item(s) or you received an incorrect item in your shipment, please contact me immediately. At my discretion, and based on availability of your originally order item, I will exchange the product at my expense or offer a refund.
*Due to the nature of the fabric printing process, there is a possibility of minor flaws, smudges, and tiny dots of white or incorrect color. Stretch fabrics (such as knits) may experience a slight curve to the print line. While I do make every attempt to provide you with flaw free material, these small imperfections will not be compensated for. Please bring large flaws/issues to my attention for exchange/refund.
Wholesale availability
As a small business retailer, I do not generally deal in wholesale orders. However, if you are interested in a bulk purchase (i.e. full bolts/rolls of fabric), please contact me. I'm more than happy to try to fulfill your needs and special order something if available from the supplier.
**Please understand when browsing, that my store fabric offering spans numerous years of fabric collections and may no longer be available for me to repurchase in bulk.
Do you have a shop I can visit?
I'm sorry, at this time, my business is online only. For insurance reasons and due to Village regulations, I cannot invite customers to my home office for browsing or order pickups.
*If you are local to the Shorewood, Illinois area and are interested in saving shipping costs, I am always happy to meet with you at a public location to provide you with your ordered item(s). Please contact me BEFORE ordering to make such arrangements. My local police department provides a Safe Haven exchange setting in their building to provide safety to both parties when meeting a stranger to complete transactions.
Do you offer discounts?
Occasionally throughout the year, I do put items on sale or offer coupon codes. I do not maintain any continuously offered discounts.
Most of my fabric and sewing supply items are already priced below standard retail and I cannot entertain requests for further discount - unless requesting an item in bulk. Bulk orders are considered full bolts or rolls of fabric, or full packages/sets of items as offered on a wholesale basis.
(Many small/average cuts of fabric across multiple different items are not considered bulk for discount purposes.)
