HOW TO SHOP ONLINE AT MONApaints:

I do not assign sizes to my wearable art pieces, but measurements are included in the description of each item. Compare your own measurements to those in the item description. You may always e-mail or call me if you are unsure about the size of an item you lust for!
Get your self a measuring tape...don't guess! and take your measurements.

Bust- measure the fullest part of your bust...bust measurement is different from bra size....you might wear a size 36 bra, but your bust measures 40...see why this measurement is important?!
Waist- Let's not depress ourselves...I rarely make anything with a waist, so you can skip this step if you want!
Hip- measure around your hips about 5 inches down from your waist....geez, just do it...no one's gonna see this but you!
Shoulder- this is important if you have broad shoulders, otherwise you can skip this step.
Arm length- measure from edge of shoulder to wrist. I am happy to shorten sleeves prior to shipping at no fee....but if you don't know your sleeve length it will cost you money to ship it back for adjustment.
Length- It's nice to know how long a shirt needs to be if you want it to cover your tush...so measure from shoulder to whatever needs covering!

NOW, PUT THESE IN A SAFE PLACE, LIKE IN YOUR WALLET...right next to your credit card for easy shopping!

About

Fabulizer of found objects

Picasso didn’t start out with abstract paintings, he was classically trained and his early works were much more realistic. I have spent years sewing from patterns with finished seams so that my garments looked like something you would buy in a store. It takes a creative mind and free spirit to think beyond the box and to disassemble and reassemble garments which have been tossed away, much the same as remodeling an existing structure costs more per square foot, and takes more ingenuity than building from scratch. I start with a pile of sweaters, coats, shirts, and various other assorted recycled clothing items. Some of the pieces may have been dyed or hand painted. Then I select a basic clothing piece and search through my stash for a variety of complimentary items to cut up and sew together to make what I call a "fabulized" piece of wearable art. Every creation is then machine washed and dried to pre-shrink and add a bit of pucker to the seams in some cases. Measurements are taken on un-stretched garments. I have been creating wearable art using recycled textiles since the word green meant just a color! As an artist/painter, you will find the use of color, form and texture extraordinary in MONA! brand garments. This is my profession. I take my work seriously and offer excellent customer service. Having exhibited and traveled the juried art show circuit for many years, MONA! artwear is collected and coveted by thousands of women. If you are so inclined, please take a moment to visit my web site, MONAPAINTS.COM, and view some of the other things that I create, including painted cars, art work, vacation homes filled with unique furnishings. If you happen to live near or are traveling through western North Carolina, I invite you to call ahead to set up a private showing in my home in Hendersonville . 828-808-4799

Welcome to MONApaints! I hope you will love my things as much as I love the creative process involved in making them. I welcome all questions ...feel free to call 828-808-4799.
Everything on this page is my own unique design. I create the same way as I cook...no patterns and no recipes....just go by instinct. If you are curious and are interested in trying to create similar items...I hope I have inspired you to go for it...cut up some old clothes and re-fashion them into works of art...or get a paint brush and decorate your shoes...create a look that is your own...please don't copy mine!

Every clothing piece is hand crafted in my studio. A big pile of used clothing is to me much like a palette of paint is to a painter...each item is constructed much like a sculpture...things are added and taken away until the product has the kind of look I am trying to achieve. Recycled shirts are often hand painted before reconstruction to give a super, individualized look to the finished garment. Some of my things are reconstructed from previously reconstructed items that I just got tired of for one reason or the other or didn't sell the way they were.. You will not find the same item twice! Please respect the fact that I do not accept commissions. As an artist and owner of my company, I reserve the right to work in the manner that most pleases me at the moment. I'm not fond of sergers... I am too impatient to deal with re-threading them. I sew my clothing with a zig-zag stitch to provide that shabby-chic, hand crafted appeal. They are guaranteed to fray and fringe, but not fall apart. Keep a little scissors handy to snip the long strings when you wash your piece...just like we did with our cut-offs in the 70's!

I have sold thousands of pairs of hand painted shoes and countless hand painted leather purses and wallets. It took me years of trial and error, and lots of good shoes ended up in the dumpster to come up with a process that didn't crack or peel over time. I do not offer instruction in the painting of leather items. MONA! brand painted leather items are guaranteed not to chip, peel or fade and are resistant to rain. If you find that your hand painted item is peeling or chipping, please contact me immediately. I will repair or replace. The art work on these items are my original designs...we all learn from one another. Try developing your own style ...please do not sell copies of my work .

Accepted payment methods

Payment
I accept paypal, which gives you the option of paying with a bank draft if you do not have or chose to use a credit card. By using Paypal you may pay with any major credit card. I am happy to provide lay-a-way or reserve items for a week or two. I don't accept payment by check unless you are buying in person.
Shipping
Items are shipped within one to two business days. Every now and then I get busy and don't make the 5 Pm deadline, so packages will go out the next day.
I use the USPS PRIORITY MAIL with DELIVERY CONFIRMATION. ...but if i am out of town I might use UPS or Fedex if it is more convenient. I keep all tracking information, and a package has never been lost in over 15 years of weekly shipments. Once in a while the postal person will deliver to a wrong address, they are human and make mistakes. Sometimes the shipments get routed through a ridiculous place out of the way....be patient, it will find it's way to you. I do not insure packages, so if the delivery confirmation says it was delivered and you tell me you never received it, I am not responsible. If you don't want your packages sent to an apartment lobby or rural mailbox...have them delivered to a po box...much more secure. Unfortunately, international shipments are not guaranteed....so buy at your risk...I can't refund your money if you don't receive your shipment. I have been shipping via US MAIL for over 10 years. They DO NOT lose packages. If you don't receive your item within a reasonable amount of time, let me know and I will track it.
ALSO...IF ORDERING A GIFT AND TIME IS CRUCIAL ...PLEASE LET ME KNOW PRIOR TO PLACING THE ORDER.
Refunds and Exchanges
Seven day return policy for full refund on your purchase, no refund on shipping...I'm not Amazon, this is a one person business!
Please contact me prior to returning any items. I am often away and need to be notified so that a neighbor or friend can watch for any deliveries. Please don't ask for the package to be signed. There isn't always a person available to sign and this will just delay your credit.

CARE AND CLEANING of MONA'S HAND CRAFTED APPAREL
I usually machine wash and dry my own things ...but that's because I can fix them if need be. You paid a lot of money for your item....trust it to your dry cleaner or hand wash and dry flat.....

HAND PAINTED SHOES and purses
All hand painted shoes have been coated with a protective acrylic finish...please do not add any waterproofing other sprays or chemicals as these can react poorly with the finish. If you wish to clean your painted leather item, a damp cloth with a little soap will refresh your item without harm. Remember, the painted shoes have water resistant pigments and finishes...you can wear them in the rain without the paint bleeding. If you have a habbit of dragging a foot or rubbing your shoes together, the paint will wear off in those places....this is a normal occurance and over time your shoes or purse will have their own patina.
