I LOVE painting the Moon!
The Moon is a very affecting presence for me - not only as a painter: the perfection of the Full Moon, especially so. Its round eye keeping watch, pulling me in visually, physically, artistically, psychically… As a celestial body the Moon has profound effects on Earth and its inhabitants. If there were no Moon, there would be no tides, and if no tides, there would be no life on this planet. The Sun and the Moon, unbeknownst to many modern minds, are both equally responsible for Terrestrial life. Consider our bodies are nearly 80% water – do you think the Moon can *not* have a tangible effect on us?
Intellect aside, it is the Moon as metaphor, the mystery and unrivaled loveliness of moonlight - the mystical blue light in which the landscape is painted each night – which perpetually holds my fascination as an artist, and thus, this series of lunar art is born.
