About

A product of education and experience.

Hi there! Welcome to Moonphire Design! My name is Elayna and I work as a systems librarian by day and an artist by night. My love for drawing, sewing, and every possible artistic venture I can find is something that has been with me since I was a child. I always loved to draw and as I got older I took on more and more ambitious art projects. I even completed my undergraduate studies in art before moving on to get my masters in library and information science.

Being creative is something I never grew out of and, at this rate, I never will. It brings my life joy and meaning and I try to capture that in my work. My hope is that anything anyone purchases from my shop will get a little joy from my work too!

FAQs
Q: Where did the name "Moonphire Design" come from? How do you pronounce "Moonphire?"
A: The name "Moonphire Design" came from an exercise I had done back in my high school art/advertising class where we had to come up with our own brand and name for it. I have always stuck with this name and will likely never change it. It was the first brand I had ever come up with so I am very attached to it.

"Moonphire" is pronounced "Moon fire." The "ph" just takes the place of the "f" in fire.

Q: What made you decide to be an artist?
A: I had always loved drawing and art ever since I was a child which is what drove me to pursue a degree in art. I got my bachelors degree in art from Rowan University. Initially, I went to art school to become an art teacher.

Q: Then why do you have a Masters degree in Library Science?
A: As I was working through my Bachelors degree, I determined that I didn't really want a full-time career as an art teacher. Plus, going through getting a degree in art left me feeling burned out. Instead, I decided to pursue a Masters in another field I very much enjoy - librarianship! I love being an artist, but I also love being a librarian and this felt "right" for me as a full-time profession.

Q: What inspires you?
A: I am most inspired by the natural world. Particularly animals like wolves and cats. While fanart is fun to make, I find my best work is done based on nature.

Additional policies and FAQs
~ FAQ ~
Q: Do you take commissions/custom orders?

A: Commissions and custom orders are accepted for drawings and plushies! If interested, please send a convo or an email to moonphiredesign [!at] gmail.com for more information.

Q: If I would like to request a custom order, when is payment due?

A: 100% of payment is due before any work can begin.

Q: Are your plushies safe for my pets/small children?

A: My plushies are for the serious plush collector and plush enthusiast! That being said, they not intended as toys for pets, babies, small children, or anyone who may be at risk for putting them in their mouths. The plushies may have plastic eyes, appliqued pieces, or pellet fillings that can pose a choking hazard if dislodged/removed from the plush.

Q: Are your perler bead creations safe for small children/pets?

A: No! These creations are made with fusible perler beads and are intended for collectors or someone who wants something neat to display. They are not intended as toys. While they are heat fused together quite well, it is still possible to break off pieces with enough force and these pieces may present a choking hazard for pets, babies, and small children.
