I loved these- just what we wanted at a very very reasonable price! They were just as advertised and done very quickly. They printed up easily and were beautiful. Just know to buy (or order online) A7 envelopes - a bit hard to find. The colors were very rich. I can't recommend this product and seller enough!
Lifelong artist turned graphic designer turned self-employed bookmaking enthusiast
I have been an artist always & forever. Before I can remember, drawing & crafts were my thing. My mother tells me that in kindergarten I was often the last kid at the table meticulously putting the final touches on my craft, long after the other kids had lost interest.
Moonscape began as a project in college, during my last year at San Diego State University. I was prompted by an assignment to develop a project for my portfolio that encompassed what I had passion for. The reason I was an artist and subsequently a designer. The answer to that question: my art, my letterpress printing, and my bookmaking.
When I was 21, I had an experience that has transformed me and inspired me. I began hiking around this time to exercise, clear my mind, listen to God & pray. There have seldom been times since then as invigorating, healing & transformative in my life. There's nothing quite like being the only person for a few square miles to help quiet your mind & escape the chaos of life. Then, September 2007 came. Wildfires were running rampant in San Diego. My family was evacuated, which left me feeling completely helpless. To top it off, my absolute favorite hiking trail, Mount Woodson, was burning. I was in a state of shock for a few days. I still remember the smell of ash in the air as I drove around the day after, the sky orange and hazy.
My family's home survived. And after a couple months, I revisited my favorite trail. It was a whole new place. The brush was completely cleared. The rocks were charred & cracked. The trees looked dead. All was black, all was dead. But, when I looked closely, new little sprouts were popping up from the incredibly fertile soil. I was able to explore areas I'd never been, and I felt like it was a reflection of myself. The burning of the dead parts, to make way for the new. God transformed me during this time, stripping away what was no longer growing (certain relationships & my job), and making way for the new (within a few months, I had a new, way better job, and I met my now husband). Fire & it's power to destroy in order to make way for new growth has remained a strong symbol in my life.
Moonscape means a landscape on the moon, or any landscape that looks like the moon, desolate & barren. I have always loved the moon, too, so this name is a reminder of the beauty of the moon & the post-fire landscape. Even in desolation, there is beauty, & there is hope for the future.
Slowly, my Moonscape school project evolved from centering around my art prints to creating hand-bound, carefully designed books to be used as wedding guest books, journals, or photo albums. I have a love/addiction for beautiful decorative papers, and Moonscape is my enabler. I opened my Etsy store in 2010, first selling a few tiny hand-bound books I'd made & photographed. It took a long time, but I slowly increased my guest book inventory, and eventually added invitations. After the birth of my daughter, I added my birth announcement design, which is an adaptation of the design I did for her announcement.
Today, I fill orders in our Southern California apartment, often while watching Netflix, with a 3-year old watching & "helping" from the sidelines, and my infant son crawling about nearby.
Some of my interests: cooking, health & nutrition, human anatomy, astronomy & physics, sewing, music (indie, alternative, punk rock), typography, babywearing, attachment parenting, fashion.
I'm a wife of 6 years to my amazing husband, a mama to our hilarious 3 year old daughter & sweet infant son, and the owner-operator of Moonscape. I have a degree in Graphic Design from SDSU, where I graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors in 2009.
