Located on the Central Coast, Earth Art Gem and Jewelry specializes in unique, hand crafted silver jewelry and gemstones. All of our items are made using traditional silver smith methods. Everything starts with the selection of the stone. Each one is unique in its own way and this lends itself to the design process. The silver begins as nothing more than sheet and wires. Through the carful manipulation with torch, hammer and file, the silver is shaped into what you now see before you. Some pieces are finished in a matter of hours while others may take several days. The finished result is a one-of-a-kind jewelry piece.
Because our jewelry is hand made, it is not perfect like what you may find in a pricy, high end jewelry store in the mall. There may be small file marks, or dents from the hammer, or even unpolished areas. All evidence to having been formed by a human hand. While we take every care to create items that look nothing less than stunning, we feel that these small imperfections add to the character of the piece and we hope that you will too.
I also take care to try to take pictures of all of my items in good light and at various angles so that there will be no surprises when an item arrives. If you have any questions about an item or would like more information, please just ask!
Paypal is my preferred method of payment. PayPal helps to ensure protection to both the seller and the buyer and is the easiest way to pay. If you do not have a PayPal account, I highly recommend creating one.
I do accept money orders. If you plan to pay this way, My address will be supplied to you when you check out. Please mail the money order to me. I will not send you your item until the money order arrives here and I have cashed it (which i will do within 1-2 business days). I am not responsible for lost mail so be sure to apply insurance or tracking to your mail. I will always be sure to contact you when I have shipped your package.
I accept checks as a form of payment, however, the item will not be shipped until the check has arrive here and has cleared. If you plan to pay this way, My address will be supplied to you when you check out. Please mail the check to me. I will not send you your item until the money order arrives here and I have cashed it (which i will do within 1-2 business days). I am not responsible for lost mail so be sure to apply insurance or tracking to your mail. I will always be sure to contact you when I have shipped your package.
I do offer layaway plans on any item over $300.00
-Layaway may not be used on Custom Items or Made to order items.
- I do not charge any extra fees for a layaway plan. An initial 33% deposit on the item is due before the item will be removed from my shop. This deposit in not refundable if the layaway plan is cancelled. Please contact me if you would like to purchase an item on layaway. I will set up a separate listing for you in my "Reserved" shop section which will be for the initial deposit (33% of the cost of the item). This listing will also contain a copy of these policies and the payments will be written out in detail for the buyer, including: The date of each payment and the payment amount, my PayPal information (which is also in these policies).
-Payments: Typical payments will be due by the 15th of each month via PayPal to mooredesign13 [!at] yahoo.com. Each payment will be 33% of the overall item cost. Therefor there will be 1 initial deposit and 2 payments. The first payment will be due on the month following when the deposit is made. For Example: If the deposit is paid on April 3rd, the first payment will not be due until May 15th. The final payment will also include the cost of the shipping. There is no penalty for early payoff and as soon as the item is paid in full it will be shipped. I do not apply interest to the balance during the layaway period.
-Late Payments: It is the responsibility of the buyer to make each payment after the initial deposit. If a payment is not made by the 15th of each month a bill will be sent via PayPal to the buyer as a reminder. If this bill is not paid by the end of the month the Buyer will be contacted to notify them that the plan has been cancelled. Please see below for Plan cancellation.
-Cancellation: At anytime the buyer may cancel the Layaway plan. If they choose to do so they will be refunded all monies paid into the plan, minus the 33% deposit. The item will be re-listed at this time. If the buyer wishes to restart the plan before the next payment would have been due they may do so.
-Human Factor: I am human and so I realize that people make mistakes, forget payments, forget about payment plans, go on vacations etc... So if something comes up, please just send me a message explaining the circumstances and I will be flexible in meeting your schedule. If something goes wrong I would rather it all work out than having to cancel a Layaway plan. I will do my best to keep communication open, Please contact me sooner rather than later if meeting payments becomes an issue.
-Changes to the plan: I am very flexible. Please let me know when contacting me about a plan if you would like your payments to be over a longer or shorter period of time and I will try to accommodate your request within reason. If in the middle of a plan you find that you are unable to make a payment one month but you do not want to cancel, I will allow you lower your payment. My goal is to sell you jewelry, not to make money with deposits, so I will be happy to make adjustments to plans as long as the payments keep coming in.

I collect Sales Tax for purchases made by people in California.
I use the etsy shipping system for all my packages which has a third party Insurance system.
Shipping varies, usually items are shipped the day they are purchased, Flat rate boxes and padded envelopes are used most often. I will always use delivery confirmation to help ensue packages are not lost however I am not responsible for any lost items after it leaves my hands at the post office. I also insure items over $100.
SHIPPING OUTSIDE THE US:
Packages mailed to countries outside the US are sent first class unless other arrangements are made.
I ship to many different countries. Each with their own import and customs laws. It is the responsibility of the customer to know the laws pertaining to their country and be prepared to pay any import fees as they may apply. There is no way for me to know in advance if you will be charged extra.
I do not lie on my customs forms about the contents, value or purpose of the shipment. This is against the law.
If you choose to not pay the import fees, and the package is returned to me, no refund will be given for shipping fees, and a 15% restocking fee will be subtracted from a refund of the purchased price. if the item is "off the shelf" and 25% will be subtracted if it is made to order.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you buy something from my shop and are unsatisfied, please contact me so that we can discuss the return of the item and a refund. Returns should be made within 7 days of receiving the item. Ifa ring is ready to ship, and is not made to order, it can be returned for a full refund (minus shipping costs).
All refund requests should be sent via email or Etsy Convo. I will respond to all inquires within 24-48 hours. You may receive an automated message telling you that I have received your request and am reviewing it.
Please review the specific policies below for each type of item that I make/sell: If you are not sure which category your item falls into, or want to know in advance, please just ask.
LAYAWAY ITEMS: If you purchase a item on Layaway and decide to return it within the allowable return time frame, then you will receive store credit only for the full amount of the item.
MADE TO ORDER ITEMS:
~Made to order items are a lot like Custom Made items.
~All Silver made to order rings (Such as the tardis, Zelda and tire Rings, etc..) can be exchanged for free. The buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping the ring back to me. Returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee. (Shipping is not refunded)
~For all gold rings which are made to order, and returns are subject to a 33% re-stocking fee.
If you experience a problem like green skin or allergic reaction (red skin) then please contact me so we can fix the problem.
Items with Custom engraving or stamping or which have been customized beyond the normal listing cannot be returned.
Custom Items cannot be returned for a full refund.
Instead, if you have a custom item made and decide that you wish to return it, you have two options to choose from:
1. return it for a 67% refund. you will forfeit a 33% deposit, which is the minimum deposit I accept on a custom item. This is applicable, whether you paid all upfront, or in multiple payments.
2. I will take it back and sell it in my shop on commission. When the item sells you will receive a refund, minus a 10% commission fee which covers the listing fees, shipping and office time. I will sell it back at the same price as you paid, unless you request that I raise the price such that you will still receive a full refund after it sells.
The item will be given a maximum of one year to sell. If it does not, you will be contacted for a shipping address to mail the item back to you at your expense.
I will only take on repairs of my own work. There is a $60 minimum shop time charge for all repairs.
Shipping Cost: Shipping costs are usually not refundable. Think of this as the gas and time you would have spent had you driven to a brick and mortar.

-I have completed over 100 Custom Orders since Joining Etsy! Feel free to contact me with any questions about custom items at any time, I welcome it!
-I collect Sales tax for sales in California as I am required by law to pay these taxes for all Statewide sales.
-I guarantee all of my work from defects, but not from flaws (in other words I ensure that earrings will work and clasps will open and close but these are hand made and will bear marks that deem it as such).
-I offer no guarantee for any of the chains or chords that i provide as they are included with the items for free, unless otherwise noted.
GREEN OR BLACK SKIN:
First of all: Don't Worry! Your ring is real sterling silver. I test all of my alloys to ensure that everything I sell is up to standard. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver, and 7.5% copper. When I work the silver with heat, via either casting or soldering, a fine layer of copper will rise to the surface. I then clean the rings in a mild acid which removes only the copper from the surface. This usually means that the ring will have a total silver content of more than 92.5%. Next, if called for, I'll oxidize the ring to turn it completely black. After this step, the ring is sanded and polished to remove the black surface coating from all the high parts of the ring. My tire rings are a good example of this. After the final polish, the rings are steam cleaned to remove any polishing residue from the ring, and then get a final wash in soap and warm water. They are air dried and then inspected, packed and shipped.
If your ring turns your finger green or black, most people assume it is not real silver, and they would be wrong. Your friends or family may tell you that It is fake, but I assure you, that they too are wrong. As a jeweler who works every day with these metals, I am pretty sure I know the facts. Here are several possible reasons why a ring may turn your skin green or black:
The most common reason is that a small amount of copper remains in the surface of the alloy. As most of people know, copper DOES react to turn your skin green. Some people have this problem more than others. The acids and oils in your skin will react with the tiny particles of copper in the ring and leave a green residue. The solution: Wash the ring and your hands. I can also acid wash the ring again for you if needed. There is no charge for this. Often times simply by wearing the ring for a few days, and washing the ring and your hands between each wear, the problem will correct itself.
Another possibility is that the ring is reacting with soaps, lotion, oils or other foreign substances on your skin. These will have a similar effect on the ring as mentioned above.
Other possible explanations:
Many of my rings are oxidized. This is what turns the metal black. After oxidizing, I polish the ring heavily to remove the black parts from where I don't want them. The oxidization particles can re-activate when they come into contact with sweat, lotion, hot water or other activators which will cause the ring to turn black again. This in turn can turn your finger black or green. The remedy, simply re-polish the ring. After one or two cycles of this, it should stop.
Garlic: Eating garlic can also cause your skin to secrete oils which will cause your skin to turn black when in contact with the silver ring.
As long as the fingers are not getting itchy, or swollen, then this is no need to worry. You are not allergic to silver unless you get a red rash on your finger, and this is rare.
So why might one ring cause this problem, and another ring be problem free? The main reason has to do with how the rings are made. Hand made rings do have some human interaction and while I, and my fellow jewelers certainly try to make each and everything we make, as perfect as possible, not everything is going to be perfect. many commercially made rings will be plated in pure silver or rhodium after they are finished. This way the ring looks bright and shiny, and is less likely to have oxidization issues in the short term, but after a few years or so of regular use, the plating will wear off.
I use a GXL-NEXT TESTER SET to test all of my silver and gold supplies to ensure quality. I can assure you, everything is as I say it is. Guaranteed.
If you experience a problem with a ring like advanced aging, or skin issues, and would prefer to return the ring rather than try to fix the problem, you may return it for a refund. You are responsible for returning the ring, including the ring box that came with it, and paying for the shipping. Once the ring arrives here, I will post a refund. Please enclose a note with your name, and a brief explanation of the problem, and where you ordered the ring from: Website, etsy, phone order etc... and how you paid, and I will send a refund for the ring(s) minus the original shipping cost.
