Beautiful and so comfortable! I've been a loving customer of Royal Peasantry for several years now. The seller is so sweet, and great at communication. Fast shipping and wonderful product. I'll be buying stuff from this shop, for as long as they stay open. Love them.

About

Our Mission and My Story

More Than Mammal, Inc. is a sustainable, eco-fashion brand within the house of Royal Peasantry.

Royal Peasantry has been dedicated to creating unique, expressive garments and accessories sustainably since 1999. Over the years we have recycled thousands of pieces of disregarded clothing, breathing transformative life back into them. We have saved innumerable pieces of high quality upholstery and leather scraps reincarnating them as bags, holsters, and parts of clothing. We cut, dye, trim, print, and recombine to create contemporary designs that evoke a timeless and primal magic.

Founded in deep love and connection to the Earth, our mission is to offer beautiful alternatives to wasteful clothing over-production. Honoring each other everything is made locally by our shop of fairly paid craftspeople. Every object that you receive from us has been touched and formed by loving and skilled human hands. Our clothes are meant to be lived in and celebrated in with a brilliantly clear and joyful conscious.

What is our style? It can be many things. Our materials and personal spirits draw us to invoke nature and conjure designs reminiscent of vernacular styles and fantastical imaginings from all over the world. You may call it nomadic or BOHO or festival wear or burner or traveller or faerie or magical or tribal. We want you to call it your own.

We offer a full line of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories including leather hip bags, holster bags, utility/festival belts, feather belts, shirts, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, vests, shrugs, jackets, and a variety of mutant clothing creations for your pleasure. We also create hats, headdresses, leather masks, wallets, mutant shoes, and jewelry.

We shamelessly scavenge to find treasures in the rough to fuel our alchemy and in so doing save all manner of goodies from landfill oblivion. Our recycled clothing is handcrafted with durable materials so everything from our most economical basic items to our lavish couture is built to last. We want you to live and play and love fearlessly in our creations! Join us in celebration and self expression for everyday living and extravagant delights.

We seek to tempt you to embrace the alchemy of upcycling by enticing you with creations that turn the cast off and the humble into the marvelous and the spectacular. Royal Peasantry.

About the Designer:
When did you start?
I Started sewing at age 7 with my mom. We spent summers working on our projects to show at the fair in the 4H tent and in the fashion show. 4H was our weekly skill time, and at home my mom always had her sewing stuff all around, making various projects. There were boxes of patterns , trims and fabric from the 70’s. I was messy, short tempered, and always got a white ribbon. In fifth grade I made an olive drab catsuit, I loved it! Thanks Mom! I have always been making my garments my own in some way. Boxes of costume jewelry from our Buba in fifth grade, as a country girl it was my first taste of luxury! I was deeply inspired. Collages of cultures and treasures, for me!! I wore it all, at once. Beads in my hair, 20 glittering fake gold pins on my jean jacket, a peace sign made with fake pearls , vintage golden pop bead necklaces, saints on brown string, rhinestone spring bracelets up to my elbows, turquoise and silver cuffs and rings, I wore it all, all the time. My punishment from my parents when I needed it was to take away my basket of hair accessories and my jewelry box. This is why I am so well behaved and disciplined, I couldn’t go to school naked without my adornments. My parents know me so well. I am very lucky, they encouraged my difference always.

How is work created?
Materials reactive construction and inspiration, using what we have, the forsaken, the over with, the hand me downs and emptied out old closets. Its always been, inventive quick fix tendencies and short attention span intuitive patterns, draping, overwhelming ideas that wont sit still at times crudly manifest, and the desire for adornment, to be me, and to feel like me. I used to wear argyle knee high socks with sock garders clipped to my jean shorts, and (no they were not booty shorts boys, I have brothers,) I fashioned them out of my suspenders in 7th grade, made my first half sweater in 8th grade, and by then I had been cutting up my dads old work clothes, my moms old stuff from the seventies, all the other odds that were just setting in their closet, my uncles girlfriend (now wife) also used to give me bags of clothes , and she had great taste! But I still made it my own! High school and thrift stores, the introduction to vintage and glamour. I made lot of half sweaters, golden retriever sweater, the neon robot sweater, I always had names for them, my clothes I never lost.

I never felt fully comfortable getting dressed until I found RP, so I dove in recklessly and wholeheartedly. A customer turned model soon became an apprentice… now I do a little bit of everything. Seamstress, leatherworker, and hand-crafter/sewer.
