About MorijaDesigns

Sales 222
On Etsy since 2015

The inspiration behind Morija’s work derives from the observation of the natural patterns and textures of flora in her west coast surroundings. Her work focuses on the use of wild silks and hand dyeing processes to create unique textural pieces. Morija creates cloth enriched with hand crafted details and complexity. Her hand dyed silk cloth is created using a traditional Japanese technique called Shibori. The fabric is first stitched and gathered to create a resisted area and then natural dyes are painted or vats are used to dip the fabric into different colours of dye. Silk jewelry is crafted using fine silks, natural dyes, heat etching and traditional silk floral making processes. The result is a unique durable, leather-like texture that is used to sculpt the floral accessories.

Welcome to Morija Designs. Here you will find handmade textile accessories using natural dyes and materials. My inspiration is primarily taken from the west coast shoreline colour palettes, textures and patterns. I work with the organic characteristics of silk fibre and diverse combinations of colour and texture, resulting from natural dyeing processes. Each piece is uniquely formed by hand, beginning with raw silk fibre and is ultimately transformed into a one-of-a-kind accessory. The application of natural dyes onto fabric is an inspiration unto itself and is therefore never 100% predictable and an experience every time a piece is made!
