Announcement   Thanks for visiting my shop! I'm exciting to announce that I have been accepted for the MFA program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. All the money I make from my Etsy sales will help me with registration fees and moving expenses. I will be posting more handmade items soon at discounted prices. Your support of makers and artists like me can make great things possible :)

Everything in my shop (except vintage items) is handcrafted & designed by me using only the highest quality materials. For my knits, I rarely use synthetic fibers. I try to buy yarns from companies that care about both the earth and the animals.

I am currently in the midst of transforming my shop to include all of my creative pursuits, including knitting, sewing, bookbinding, painting, printmaking, collecting, etc. Really, anything that stirs my curiosity will be featured here and on my new website (more to come on that soon!)

Find me around the web!

I'm always open for custom requests. If there is something you desire, just let me know.

Thank You so much for the beautiful mittens. My mother-in-law loved them. They were perfect! And wrapped so nicely. Just in time for the holidays. Thanks again!

Kristy Childress, aka Theory & Practice, is originally from central Indiana. After a bit of time in Seattle, a couple of brief stints in Fargo ND, Lander WY (where she taught herself to knit), Minneapolis, MN, and a few seasons in the UK, she settled in the Twin Cities where she finished her BFA in paining and drawing at the University of Minnesota. She is currently back in Indianapolis and making coffee, art & knits for the world to enjoy. Beginning in the Fall of 2016, she will begin her MFA studies at UMass Amherst.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Shipping
I almost always ship the day after you order (or even the same day, depending on the time.)

U.S.A: All domestic orders will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail.
If you would like Express Mail, insured shipping or another carrier, please message me and I can send you an updated invoice. If you are local to me, I can offer free pickup as an option. Send me a message to make arrangements.

Canada: Shipping to Canada will be via USPS Priority Mail International. You will receive a tracking number upon shipment. Shipping costs are generally between $15-20 (USD).

I cannot currently ship overseas, but if you know someone in the US, I would be happy to ship it to them, and they can forward it to you. However, i cannot be held responsible for it's safety once it leaves the US.

Also note that I cannot be held responsible for items lost/damaged in the mail or delays/fees at customs. Most things are one of a kind and, sadly, not replaceable. I recommend that insurance is requested. I cannot mark shipments as a "gift".
Refunds and Exchanges
I will gladly offer refunds on unused, unworn, and undamaged goods if I am notified within a week of receipt. Unfortunately I cannot refund shipping to or from your location. PDF patterns that have already been emailed cannot be refunded.

Cancellations: If you wish to cancel an order, please email me within 24 hours after placing the order.
Additional policies and FAQs
All knitting patterns are sold in PDF format only. At this time I don't have print copies available for purchase, but will possibly have them at a later time.

All items are made by hand and designed by me.
Photos, patterns, and designs are copyright 2016 Kristy Childress/Theory & Practice. All knitting patterns are for private, non-commercial use.
