About

The idea for the uniqueness of Mozoo stuffed animals came during the summer of 2013 when I was working on altering a pair of pants into shorts. When the project didn’t go as smoothly as I had originally intended I was left with ill fitting shorts and an excess of fabric from the pants legs. Instead of scrapping the fabric I decided to put the remains to good use. I recycled the fabric into a stuffed owl. The shape of the owl was completely dependent on the shape of cloth I had remaining which led to a creative and fun challenge to create stylistic stuffed animals from old fabric lying around.
That year, as my father began selling honey at the Iowa City Farmer’s Market, I joined him with a basketful of my sewn critters to sell. They sold successfully that first summer and again the following summer’s farmer’s market. Later that year I would move out-of-state , putting the creation and sales of my stuffed animals on hold for a few more months. It wasn't until the fall of 2016 that I decided to pull out my box of scrap fabric from the closet and began sewing again. With more critters than I knew what to do with I decided to turn to Etsy and officially make Mozoo Critters a part-time business.
