Mraur's custom dreadlocks, wigs, and wearables to decorate your temple!

First of all, I want to send out a big THANK YOU to all of my lovely customers who have supported me here on Etsy - you've made my dream come true!

A little about me:
I have been making a living solely by selling my creations for many years now. A 9-5 could never hold me. I'm finally starting to get all of my creations listed up here, waiting for their new homes!

I make lots of different things, so I never get bored. Lately I've been focusing on wearable art - realistic, knotty hand-crocheted synthetic dread extensions and wigs, soft, hand-felted alpaca dread extensions, hand-printed and patched one of a kind clothing pieces, jewelry made of bones, stones and hide, and funny little elf hats that are good for traipsing around in the woods. And of course, I still paint and draw when the spirit moves me, so you'll see some prints available too!

I've been a wanderer for many years, running around the globe from Peru to Spain, Argentina to Thailand, around and around, gathering calluses on my feet, stories to tell, and inspiration for my creations. Now that I've settled my feet down for a bit in the northeast, I am pulling together all the loose ends and sewing them together.

Please check out my new website for more photos of my work (customer photos, wigs, and dread sets) There is also an intensive FAQ on my website which should answer many of your questions! Also, please "like" my Facebook page for updates and exclusive discounts! -

WITHIN THE USA - Whenever possible, in stock items are shipped the next day. Custom orders will be shipped when they are ready (please inquire if you have time constraints) Most small items are shipped via USPS First Class mail, larger orders are shipped via Priority mail. Both of these services include Delivery Confirmation and Tracking (information available through Etsy once I ship your item(s). If you wish to have insurance or signature confirmation on your order, please contact me to arrange the extra cost.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS - I ship out parcels internationally 1-2 times per week as it requires a trip to the Post Office. Most parcels ship via USPS First Class International Package rate which generally takes 2-3 weeks to reach most destinations once shipped. Please check your country's prohibitions and restrictions to make sure your items are allowed importation. Many countries have restrictions on human hair, animal products (alpaca/wool), plumage (feather earrings), and jewelry. You are ordering these items at your own risk and I cannot offer insurance or refunds if the items are seized by customs or lost in transit. Some countries also charge importation duties that I have no control over. If you're unsure about anything, check with your customs office before placing an order. That said, I have had wonderful luck with international orders arriving safely - I have never had a package go missing :)
Refunds and Exchanges

For ready-to-ship items, I do my best to describe everything so there are no surprises. If you receive something that is damaged, incorrect, or if you feel that it's been misrepresented in the listing, please contact me right away and I will do my best to make it right. For ready-to-ship items that have not been worn, I can accept returns or exchanges but you are responsible for the return shipping cost. I will offer an exchange or refund you the purchase price of the item minus the actual shipping costs I paid to ship the item to you. Please note, the above does not apply to custom orders.

Once I start working on custom orders, deposits are non-refundable.

I cannot accept returns for custom dread wig and extension orders as these take me a long time to create and they are made just for you! I do my best to communicate and send photos as I'm working on your dreads to make sure everything is to your liking before I ship out your goodies!

For sweater coats, please contact me asap if you try on your coat and it's just not right and we can work something out (you will need to return the coat to me in perfect, unworn condition on your own dollar and I can issue a refund of the item's sale price, NOT including my shipping costs). Sometimes there is also a paypal fee taken out of the total returned to you. I do my best to communicate and create something beautiful for you, so please contact me with any questions and be sure to check measurements and ask all questions before buying!

Care & Maintenance for Synthetic Dread Extensions

Braid-in extensions are easy to install yourself if you have clever hands and are good at working in a mirror… it can be helpful to have a friend to help with the back of your head… and some movies to help pass the time! You can also take them to a salon to install, but be sure to call ahead to see if they have experience installing dreadlocks.

- Unlike human hair dreads, repeated washing will not cause synthetic dreads to lock up more. Wash only when your scalp feels dirty. If you’re accustomed to washing your hair often, try tapering off to let your scalp’s natural oil production adjust to the new regimen. The less you wash, the better for your dreads and the longer your installation will last.
- Use a diluted no-residue shampoo (Neutrogena is decent, but my personal favorite is a bar shampoo available from Vital Goods on Etsy) and focus your scrubbing/washing on the scalp area as this is where oil accumulates. Synthetic fiber doesn’t hold dirt and oil the same way as natural hair. You shouldn’t need to soap up the extensions, just let the soap and water from your scalp run through them. Rinse well!
- Long extensions can become very heavy when filled with water. Try draping your dreads over your shoulders to support them as you wash – this will take some of the extra weight off of your scalp.
- When your hair is clean, gently squeeze the extra water out your dreads and use a thirsty towel to put your hair up in a turban to soak up more water. Leave up for a few minutes and then let them air dry. Hang out in the sun, take a bike ride, or leave your car window down as you drive… this all helps! Make sure your dreads are completely dry before going to bed (wet dreads on a pillow is a recipe for smelly hair and potential mildew)… do yourself a favor and wash early in the day on a warm day!
- Do NOT use a hairdryer on your dreads! The synthetic fiber is tough but high heat can cause it to melt… eek! Avoid exposing them to open fire as well.

- Braid-in extensions should be taken out at least once every two months (otherwise they become more difficult to remove, especially on long or coarse hair that wants to dread up). To remove, clip rubber bands and un-braid each extension. This is a great time to give your hair a good washing and give your scalp a break for a couple of days. The extensions can be given a good washing as well – fill up the sink with warm water and a bit of shampoo or dishsoap and let them soak for a bit. Rinse well a few times and let them soak in clean water.
- If your extensions seem frizzy or fuzzy, they can be re-steamed. Hang them from a hook and spritz on a bit of water. Slowly run a straightening iron hair tool on medium setting down the length of them. You will hear a little sizzle so you’ll know it’s working. Any stubborn loose hairs can be trimmed. Now they are ready to re-install! Dreads can also be steamed while on your head, just be careful to avoid steaming the rubber bands!
