Our first wave of blanks, with one of my personal masks in the background
Welcome to HyX Crew
My first HalfMask (the one I still wear) was a gift from my long lost sister. When I flew from Florida to Missouri to meet her for the very first time. That was also my first time on a plane. We grew up separately and this trip was a big deal to the both of us. During our week long adventure we drove across two states and had some great times. Our ultimate goal was to attend The Gathering of The Juggalos at Cave-in-Rock Illinois. Ultimately we didn't make it but we had a lot of fun. That was right around halloween 2013 and there were these cool masks in the shops.
She handed me a black half skull mask and bought it herself! A gift for her little brother to take back home. I didn't think much of it at the time but over the years that changed. Seeing it on my wall I grew to love the thing. Always reminding me of the memories we made. Two years later I moved to Georgia and of course, brought the mask with me. By this time I had acquired two more and saw them in the same light. A shape that represented family. I wore them, hung them on the wall and friends always admired them.
One fateful night in 2016 I happened to have some paint and I thought hey why not? So I made the very first MrHyX Mask. The paint job was crude but I've learned so much since then. The others I had hanging on the wall got their own unique artwork as well. That continued until this year 2019, painting and repainting my masks. Always acquiring more every halloween. Which became a tradition for me.
Then once again that same sister had an idea "you should open an Etsy shop!" and so I did! That brings us to today. I've got a lot of experience with these Half Skull Masks. More than any other artist I'd say. My materials (paints and clear coats) are nontoxic and carefully chosen. I know what these masks need. The straps for instance, other artists leave the factory straps attached but I know from experience that they're a cheap material that can stretch out over time. Years of the HalfSkulls hanging on my wall as art pieces taught me that. A MrHyX Half Skull has stronger REINFORCED straps for a better hold.
Then we have the actual artwork. I don't glue a bunch of dollarstore gems on the masks. That would be a waste of a great blank! And I certainly do not charge hundreds of dollars like (some) other etsy stores do (that's outrageous!) I don't pass them off as something they're not. These are paintings pulled directly from my mind. No different than a an artist's canvas hanging on your wall. I sit down each night to brainstorm and create new designs. With most of them never seeing the light of day. Only the best designs are posted for sale.
Each piece is unique and cannot be reproduced completely. They represent what emotions I felt at the time and what issues life threw my way. I can and do create similar designs but they're never really the same. They're not clones, nor copy/pasted artwork. No. They're more like brothers and sisters, born of the same brain (mine)
With that out of the way, my name is MrHyX (Terry Hicks) and I'd like to welcome you to the gallery! Please feel free to look around and find a piece that speaks to you ~
To meet the artist you may follow/friend me on Facebook, Deviant Art, Pinterest and Instagram. I check them often! (Especially Facebook) And hey! When you buy a mask remember to send me a picture! You'll be featured front page on the store. Thank you ~ MrHyX (Terry Hicks)

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders
Soon to be added to the store. For now you can contact me on social media and we can discuss your custom design. No extra cost and shipping is still free but you'll have to give it time for me to paint. Payment is handled through paypal directly in that situation.
Sizing details
In relation to custom orders: please let me know if you happen to have a small head... or a particularly large head! Straps are not adujustable, unless otherwise noted in the listing. Painted pieces already listed on the store will say (Female) if they were fit to a smaller face. Otherwise they're designed to fit the average male
Care instructions
They are water resistant but as with all painted surfaces you should avoid scratching the surface. To clean a (slightly) damp soft-cloth should be used. You may contact me directly with any questions
Gift wrapping and packaging
This isn't currently an option as I ship USPS priority mail. Though I can include a special message if purchased as a gift. Ex: "From Cara with Love" written in an artistic script on a sheet of blank paper. Rolled into a tube and included with the mask
