About

Love to sew. Love to thrift.

I grew up around a mom who owned her own sewing/alterations business (who was also a big fan of thrift stores/junk shops), so it's no surprise that I love being in my sewing room. After I graduated from college and began working in higher education (I'm a college professor), I realized that I needed a hobby to help me get through the semester (it's fun, but...then there's grading!).

As I got older, I found that designers didn't design what I wanted, so I started creating my own patterns. I moved to upcycled clothing because (1) I loved shopping at the Salvation Army, but there's only so much I can buy, and (2) tunics became my uniform, but I couldn't find any that I liked.

If you were wondering, I've worked at/attended nine colleges/universities. And I have an assortment for classmates who teach all over the U.S. and abroad. I included my LinkedIn profile if you were a little more curious about my background!

I have been sewing most of my adult life and have gone through many periods of growth and change. Although my mother was a professional tailor, I resisted sewing until I graduated from college...and then I discovered how much fun it was.

I'm a full time college professor (communication) who loves to design and sew. When I can, I take a break from the classroom and recuperate in my sewing room.

I have two types of products available in my store: (1) finished items that I made and (2) PDF sewing patterns.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges

Contact me within: 3 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 7 days of delivery
I don't accept returns or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

FINISHED ITEMS: I gladly accept exchanges (not returns). Some tunics can be altered (within limits). Please contact me within three days upon receiving your item so we can get things straightened out. Just be sure to measure carefully before purchasing! All exchanged items must be in original condition and not smell like detergents, smoke, or anything gross! Once returned, I'll examine the item before issuing an exchange. All shipping fees for the exchange process are at the buyer's expense; I will send the exchanged/new item back to you once I'm reimbursed for the shipping cost (usually the $6.95 flat rate).

DIGITAL PATTERNS: There are no refunds or exchanges on digital items. All sales are final.

Please contact me if the product is defective upon receipt.
Payment
I accept PayPal and most credit cards (through Etsy).

NY sales tax applies.
Shipping
(1) Upcycled tunics, pillow covers, and bag tags will be shipped (to the US only) within three days of receiving payment. I typically use a flat rate USPS envelope. Eventually, I'll figure out international sales/shipping. Sometimes I go on vacation; when I do, I'll let you know.

Please verify that your Etsy and Paypal addresses are correct. I use this information to process shipping labels. I won't issue refunds if you provide incorrect information.

(2) PDF sewing patterns will be available for download after your payment is received.
Additional policies and FAQs
On occasion, my cat(s) hang out with me. Although I keep things clean/neat, a stray cat hair might show up on your pillow cover and/or bag tag. But other than that, there are no funky smells or weird things to worry about.

Please let me know if you have trouble with the PDF or figuring out the pattern. Be sure to follow my blog - http://mselaineousteachessewing.blogspot.com/
