Mudbug: Freedom in Clay

Mudbug Creations is a little business that gives me a big happy!

It began for me in high school, with an absolutely fabulous teacher with a passion for ceramics. After he got me started, I never wanted to stop. However, I was always a student of the sciences and pursued and achieved a career in physical therapy.

I was not completely happy without working in the arts. I needed some creative freedom. After a three year hiatus in art, I joined the fine arts program at Drury University. Here, another wonderful teacher encouraged me to expand on my pottery skills and open a business.

I enjoy my art and hope that other's do as well. My family has supported my little business and, with their help, a small gazebo was built in the backyard. It now houses my kiln and I am well underway in creating more pieces.

It's been a fun and challenging start up and I hope my business will expand as my skills do! I found my creative freedom working in clay and will continue as long as I am able.

I am a physical therapist, potter, and endless crafter! While physical therapy is my career path, my love is throwing and handbuilding pottery. I also love to sew, paint, crochet, quilt, and anything else that catches my eye.

Shop policies

Hello! I am glad you have decided to visit my shop!

This is where I sell practical pottery at practical prices.

When you buy my pottery, you can know that it has been lovingly hand crafted to the highest of my standards. My functional pieces are fired at cone 6 in an electric kiln; all glazes are foodsafe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe. As with all hand made ceramics, the pieces will last long and look better if they are handwashed and not microwaved frequently. Each piece is hand thrown on my pottery wheel and hand glazed. I mix all my own glazes and many recipes are purely my own.

Returns and exchange details
I want you to be very happy with your purchase from me. If it breaks in the shipping process, I will gladly refund your money or make you a new one. Please remember though, every piece is unique. Glaze and shape can change slightly in every piece.

With the exception of breakage during shipping, I do not refund any work due to color, size, or shape. All of this information is present in the description of the piece. Please double check size and colors in description BEFORE purchase.

**A Word About COLOR****
I do my best to represent my products through photos and description as accurately as I can. I want you to love your pottery! Many people do not realize that the color of an image on the computer can vary from the actual product. If exact color is important to you, please send me a Convo and I will do my best to give you as much description of the color as I can.
I am happy to accept payments through Paypal and through Etsy direct. Due to some personal restrictions, I cannot accept money orders or personal checks at this time.

Cancellation must be within 24 hours to guarantee a refund.
I usually ship within four days and only through options provided by Etsy, so you can choose your own shipping option.

My policy is to ship the fastest way possible in the most economic way. I use bubble wrap, foam and peanuts for the protection of your pottery. I also double box each piece. I use recycled boxes and recycled packing materials as much as possible.

Frequently asked questions
I've seen your spine mugs online. Will you be making more of those?

These pieces are sold on a first come, first serve basis when available. I will gladly add you to the email list that I send out when I have them available! Please understand that I am a full time physical therapist and a part time potter. My turnover rate for these is 6 to 8 weeks and will be posted 3 to 5 sets at a time. Each piece is built by hand, with care, and it takes me up to 6 hours to make one set of four. When the become available, they will be posted to Etsy and email notifications will be sent out to those on my email list. Due to the massive influx of interest in the last day, I am unable to take special orders or reserve pieces for anyone at this time. These are first come, first serve only. Thank you for your understanding!

How much are your spine mugs?

The pricing for the espresso sized ones are as follows: $60 for 2, $90 for 3, and $120 for 4. The larger 8 oz mugs are as follows: $90 for a set of 2, $135 for a set of 3, and $180 for a set of 4.

Do you ship internationally? How much will it cost?

I do ship internationally. Cost is dependent on the distance you are from Springfield, MO and the size and weight of the piece. I do not offer flat rate shipping at this time.
